Listening now. Are we still going by by the same set of questions?

I've heard The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter, but I didn't realize they had any other albums people liked. I look forward to listening to this.

Default Review of The 500 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion

*Disclosure - Listened to this while at work and on crappy computer audio system; so concentration on lyrics was low but enough to feel the mood and instrumentation of the album* Thank you for introducing this record to me. I look forward when it is my turn to suggest an album and listen to other's suggestions as well.

What were your impressions of this album after the first five minutes?
*The first two songs are about the first 5 minutes with the first song being a slower melodic song that sounded like if it was not in the studio it could be a fireside camp song. The second song the singer sounds just like Donovan (to me at least). I like the use of eastern sounds and instruments, flutes etc; sounds very folky

Did those first impressions change as you listened to the album?
*The album was consistent throughout as well as my impressions*

Were the opening 2-3 tracks or the closing 2-3 tracks stronger?
*I feel like the opening 3 tracks were more listenable than the closing 3 tracks, however the final song for me ended on a strong note.*I did not particularly dig the slower track #11

Did you find you enjoyed this album more or less on repeated listens?
*Only listened once*

What was your favourite track?
*3 or 4 stand out. But to pick one i would say Painting Box*

What was your least favourite track?
*My name is Death*

What did you think of the variety of tracks presented?
*Not much variety, most in the same style/mood*

How would you describe the overall mood?
*Laid back, folky. I feel i should have a hooka in my hand*

Would you listen to it again for purposes other than this club?
*Yes* - Already added some songs to both Spotify and Plug.dj playlists

How well do you know this band/artist?
*Had heard the band name before but not any songs*

If you're familiar with this band/artist, how does this album compare to their other work?
*N/A*

How would you improve this album?
*I am not qualified to answer this question*

Would you recommend this album to a friend?
*I would recommend this to people i have met on Plug.dj. But anyone of my personal friends? No. They would not dig it.*

Will you be exploring this band/artists' other material?
*Yes*

What did you think of the vocals?
*Good - I could have sworn Donovan was a guest singer on this album. Very folky.*

What did you think of the instrumentation?
*Excellent. For my ear they all played them well*

What did you think of the production?
*Fine*

Any other thoughts to share?
*No*

Rate the album out of ten. No decimals!
*8*

What were your impressions of this album after the first five minutes?

Pleasant sounding folk/psych.

Did those first impressions change as you listened to the album?

No.

Were the opening 2-3 tracks or the closing 2-3 tracks stronger?

No preference either way.

Did you find you enjoyed this album more or less on repeated listens?

No change either way.

What was your favourite track?

"My Name Is Death" I especially enjoyed the lyrics in that one more than any of the others.

What was your least favourite track?

"Way Back in the 1960's" seemed like it was tacked onto the end of the album just to fill up the album side.

What did you think of the variety of tracks presented?

Not much variety. I thought the tracks were consistent throughout the album.

How would you describe the overall mood?

Trippy folk music.

Would you listen to it again for purposes other than this club?

Perhaps.

How well do you know this band/artist?

Have heard their other albums, also.

If you're familiar with this band/artist, how does this album compare to their other work?

Not my favorite work of theirs, but not my least liked work of theirs.

How would you improve this album?

I thought the vocals were a bit weak, so maybe another vocalist could have improved that aspect of the album.

Would you recommend this album to a friend?

If they like folk/psych, but first I would probably recommend others from the genre.

Will you be exploring this band/artists' other material?

Already heard it.

What did you think of the vocals?

Probably the weakest part of the album.

What did you think of the instrumentation?

Well played.

What did you think of the production?

Well produced.

Any other thoughts to share?

The music seems a bit too self-indulgent to appeal to a wider audience.

Rate the album out of ten. No decimals!

What were your impressions of this album after the first five minutes?

Sounded good, good acoustic guitar playing and I liked the vocals. Thought it was interesting to hear a fiddle in the first song, was not expecting that on a “psychedelic” album.

Did those first impressions change as you listened to the album?

Not really. Impressive guitar playing throughout and some unique instrumentation.

Were the opening 2-3 tracks or the closing 2-3 tracks stronger?
I guess I will go with the opening 2-3 tracks although not a huge difference.

Did you find you enjoyed this album more or less on repeated listens?

Definitely more

What was your favourite track?
First girl I loved had some amazing guitar in it. Just vocals and guitar which was very cool.

What was your least favourite track?
Painting box. Too much like Kingston Trio or something.

What did you think of the variety of tracks presented?
Good variety overall. Some bluesy, some folk, some psych, some bluegrass and some nice Celtic elements.

How would you describe the overall mood?

Very laid back and mellow. Good Sunday morning album maybe.

Would you listen to it again for purposes other than this club?
If I had it on vinyl and stumbled across it on a Sunday morning I could see throwing it on but I probably won’t go out of my way to look for it on Spotify or wherever.

How well do you know this band/artist?
My first exposure to them.

If you're familiar with this band/artist, how does this album compare to their other work?
N/A
How would you improve this album?
Maybe more songs like First girl I loved, showcasing the guitar and vocals.

Would you recommend this album to a friend?
Probably not to my friends, not their cup of tea

Will you be exploring this band/artists' other material?
I would be interested in hearing more from them.

What did you think of the vocals?
I liked the vocals and the harmonies quite a bit.

What did you think of the instrumentation?
Good acoustic guitar playing throughout. Good mix of fingerpicking, slide guitar, Sitar. Clearly some talented musicians playing on here.

What did you think of the production?
I liked the production, the acoustic guitars sounded right up front and very good.

Any other thoughts to share?

Can’t believe I never checked out this band before, seems like something I would have heard somewhere along the line. I had heard the name before but that’s about it. Had no idea they were from Scotland. Didn’t seem very classically psychedelic but I realize that term encompasses a wide variety of music. More songs like Mad Hatters song would make it feel more psych.
