Quantum-jump apart

Lps by same band that are totally disparate (in terms of
musical quality) .

HAIRY CHAPTER'S splendid "Cant Get Through" VS the horrid,
uninteresting bluesrock/psyche pastiche "Eyes" lp .

HOME - first lp vs the completely different (country/rural) style lp, "Pause for a Hoarse Horse"

JERONIMO "Cosmic Blues" VS "same"
HARD STUFF "Bulletproof" VS "Bolex Dementia"
FLOWER TRAVELLIN' BAND "Satori" VS "Anywhere"
TRAPEZE "Medusa" VS "You are the Music..."
LUCIFER'S FRIEND "Same" VS "Im Just a R&R Singer"
HUMBLE PIE "As Safe as Yesterday" VS "Eat It"
KROKODIL "Swamp" VS "Invisible World Revealed"
BLUES CREATION "Same" VS "Demon & 11 Children"

BLACKBIRDS "no Destination" vs "Touch of music"

....

This forum sucks.
There is no commitment and no knowledge.

A sad scene.

The only band I know on your list is Humble Pie for their song 30 Days in the Hole. The others are more or less bands that were obscure. I assume they are a little more known recently cause they had albums uploaded on Youtube etc. I am vaguely familiar with Jeronimo and a few others.

A quantum leap entails an instantaneous switch from one level to another. I don't know if you have prove this. Not every one has heard all of those albums so I wouldn't assume they would know how they changed and you didn't mention what was about their sound that has changed so drastically. If you take Humble Pie for instance, there are four albums and four years in between "As Safe as Yestetday" and "Eat It." It seems their sound evolved during those intermediate albums rather than had a "quantum jump."

The most pronounced "quantum jump" would be where the band completely changes its style - not just quality - for the worse. (But I'm not restricting : even without putting on any restrictions ,over 150 peeps have looked into this thread but only one has responded. That tells one two things: what sort of forum this is and proof that collectors of gear are just that - collectors of gear AND NOT MUSIC.)

There are countless examples of NON "OBSCURE" bands making a big change, yet no one has brought them up.

Would you think Uriah Heep obscure? I think not:

Take the "Firefly" lp.
Previous to this they released 3 poop-out-of-ass lps in a row. Then vocalist (Byron??) was replaced with complete different-sound vocalist, Lawton. Also Uriah became much SOFTER.
All the same, it is a good lp.
So here you have change in sound that resulted in a better lp - at least compared to the previous three.
This does not happen all that often. Usually its always for the worse.

Here are two (non-obscure) examples - that most progheads will disagree with me on - where, between one lp and the next, the group changed from clear prog to clear rock YET STILL MANAGED TO put out a great lp:

GENTLE GIANT going to the straight rock of "Civilian"

FM going to "City Of Fear"

Well if a band changed for the worse I would just say they "tanked." I generally think of bands hitting a plateau, where from the start they increasingly got better (making & innovating music) to leveling off with nondescipt music (nothing too exciting or groundbreaking, neither really extraordinarily good nor bad).

To me a quantum leap would be when a band would create something epic, like Yes with Close to the Edge or Pink Floyd with Dark Side of the Moop.
