I can't believe it's not...Pink Floyd
 

A phrase that sooner or later turns up in any discussion of Pink Floyd is “one of the most influential blah blah”. Well, here’s a chance to prove or celebrate how influential they have been, by posting songs that sound like PF, but aren’t.
Here are two that I’ve come across recently:-

From Italy, a track by Goblin on their album Roller, released in 1976:-



And from the UK, a track by Mostly Autumn; the closer to their 1998 debute album, For All We Shared...

Anything buy this band really. They're kinda like pink Floyd with synthesizers.

A couple of songs from 1967 from a couple of psychedelic bands which make me think of Pink Floyd...

@Psy-Fi : Both your bands are new to me, and both are very Floydy - the clothes and the artwork, as well as the music, which sounds like it could've come from Saucerful of Secrets.
I liked the song about the "four-penny bus ride". They get a lot of mileage haha out of a simple subject and I was particulary happy to recognise the places that are mentioned:

He's going from a built-up urban area to a leafy residential suburb, which fits the lyrics very well!

Not sure if these qualify. I think the lyrics and the singing style of Fuschia is similar to Syd Barrett/early Pink Floyd, particularly Me and My Kite. While I usually guess who was influenced by whom, I know that The Church mentioned The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd as bands that influenced them. I think the last song on their debut album has is very much Pink Floyd influenced.

"Me and my kite, we're alright". :laughing: That is such a Syd Barratt line, Neapolitan! The whole thing could be by Syd, except for the cool strings that introduce the song. Good call.

Instead of early Barratt-style Floyd, I'm having more luck with finding songs inspired by later Floyd and Gilmour's distinctive guitar style, like this one for instance:-

Both of the albums those songs were from are top-notch psych LP's and well worth a listen. Dantalian's Chariot were fronted by Zoot Money and featured a young Andy Summers on guitar.

I knew where Chiswick was but I'd never heard of Tooting before that song.

Here's another Floyd-esque song from an American musician formerly with Jefferson Airplane and Moby Grape...

I'll also look at your latest, American clip when the tech problem some of us are having is resolved. Ki, grindy, me and probably more can't see the MB Youtube clips today. :(

early porcupine tree is a must. but i wouldn't say they sound like Floyd rather they were an influence.

Most of the bands mentioned here - Mostly Autumn, Fuschia,Goblin,...

sound nothing like Floyd - any period.


One of the earliest bands to COVER Floyd (this is in the late 70s) was Sixting Music from France.
And something that few know: one of the very first COVERS of Floyd on 45rpm came -
most unexpectedly from Canada.

But...we are not talking cover versions, so I offer up two EARLY (pop-whimsey) period Floyd-wannabe lps:
