It all depends how much of a fan you are. Some of it is really good but there is a lot of crap on there at all. I still have only done a couple of discs. The SQ is really good considering it's unofficial status.

i actually grabbed it earlier today, but i got a bad copy. the silence between the tracks is all messed up, so the last few seconds of each song actually appear on the next track...

that aside, i wasn't too excited. there are a lot of demos and "radio" versions, which more or less sound like the LP versions of the tracks. the soundtrack discs are hit and miss, especially since they're not official, which means all dialog and ambient sounds are intact, making it hard to sit and listen to them.

then there are a bunch of tracks that can easily be found on waters/barrett/gilmour solo albums.

i still want to spend some more time with it, see if there's anything really new and exciting, but so far i've not seen anything to shout about.

What does everyone think about Clare Torry winning a slice of the Great gig in the sky's royalties. Does her contribution actually deserve a co-composer's credit? Esp. when it was added so many years after the event. I personally think she deserved more than what she initally got but only a % of the album sales as performance royalties which I don't believe she got. She just got a one off payment of £30. Rick should have given her a lot more out of his own pocket really or should have done the decent thing and made sure she got a %. In fact I find it a bit shocking that Floyd, and i don't think it's too strong a word, expolited her. I don't think she deserves a co-composers credit though. If someone gets a co-composers credit for just singing on an already written peice of music then Clarence Clemons for e.g could sue Springsteen for a co-compser credit on Jungleland for his sublime sax solo.

I'm going to say something, and maybe there could either be some light shined onto it or whatever you want to do.

I honestly don't understand the whole Pink Floyd fad. I mean, I understand that they're great and all, but I can't really figure out why. I've tried numerous times to listen to their music, and there's nothing special about it, at least to me.

Maybe there is something i'm missing, I just don't see the "holy crap, these guys are awesome" in them as a lot of people seem to.

I say the same about a lot of bands as well.

They are hardly a fad. Something that been around for almost half a century and still popular as ever doesn't qualify.

And to say theres nothing special is beyond me. There live shows are a sight to behold, most bands aspire to put on half he show these guys do. They have sonically tried more sounds than nearly any other groups out there and still manage to stay in the mainstreams eye to this day. They were one of the first bands to heavily use synths and technology in there music.

It also doesnt hurt there members have an incredible knowledge of songwriting and there individual instruments, and that they have released more albums than most could imagine.

Check your favorite bands influences, chances are that they list PF.

For some reason not long after I woke up this morning Pink Floy'ds Free four came into my head. It's just about my least fav. Floyd song.

Free Four is from Obscured By Clouds, dude!

Obscured is indeed kinda weak in my opinion but Free Four is one of the better songs on there.

Yea my bad. I dont know why I typed that. OBC is a fantastic album. The title track is also another favorite of mine. I was lucky enough to find one of the original pressings on vinyl a few years back, its sounds brilliant on a set of decent speakers and a quality record player.

Unpopular opinion: The Division Bell is one of my favourite albums ever!

Wish they had made more albums after that one.

That said, there couldn't be a more fitting finale to their career than High Hopes, both lyrically and musically!
