Onslow's alphabetical first vinyl

My collection is meticulously chronicled - "chronicled" so that means ordered by [I]time[I] as well -so this is easy.

Its on the computer, so I do not have to physically go to the shelves. (Like I have to when my psych friend wants some backcover info.) That is a pain cos chances are the wanted item is behind the speaker stacks. Sure as covid and sure as whenever you - here in Ontario - pick up a can of soup, you will hit the FRENCH instructions 99% of the time.

......
First prog lp in my collection is 0.720 ALECION - SAME which is excellent Mexican R.I.O.-ish

Or, if you want to forego numbers, it would be the proto prog lp, "PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT" by AARDVARK

For the "B's" , first lp in my collection would be BABIA - ORIENTE OCCIDENTE. Spain '82

70's Spain was still under the despot-rule of Generalissimo-Assholimo Franco. These were desperate times and, as you can well imagine, rock music of any sort was anything but invited. This means that , whilst prog was dead in the 80s most everywhere in the main Euro countries, it was just starting up in Spain. Spain lagged behind on the prog lp front. (As an aside: in France, deGaulle did a similar number on psych. American bases were discouraged...no, not allowed.)

Babia is a fusion-prog blend. Very tasty.Lotta instruments used.Lotta acoustic going down.EARLY newage when newage was not a total whore.

Also, partially in the Eastern-influenced mode, would be the German band ,Baba Yaga. Two lps, quite disparate from each other, were released. "Same" having a more protoprog sound and "Collage" '74 being the more Krautrock-psychedelic of the two. Maybe Ashra Temple moves. On the second lp the leader (Ingo....I forget the last name) brings in an Iranian santur player so,along with the sitar, this lp has more Eastern flavour.

CAI - NOCHE ABIERTA ('80 Spain, excellent progfusion)

DAKILA-SAME

here is my review - which , I must say, exhibits depths of perspicacity and razor-sharp ratiocination:

early 70s (I think) Phillipino (I think) band.
One of the very best (along with Chango) of the Santana clones (and there were many).

They recorded this (I think) in California and there is (I think) no origional Phillipino press.

My "E" section starts with

EAR CANDY - SOUND IS JUST THE WAY YOU EAR IT

'95 UK commune (amateur) -sound psychedelic space flipouts .
All lp releases on Poor Person Record Label have beautiful coverarts and hard to come by nowadays.

Music is quite busy and no wonder - at least 7 members to this band

Great crack if you like long jams.

FACEDANCERS - SAME '75 US

This one is rather difficult to pidgeonhole. There are harmony vocals, experiments, prog complexities, even folky moments.
Lets just say it keeps the listener on his toes.

Its psych merging ,a bit, into prog. NOT spacerock, like I read in more than one review.

PAUL GAFFEY - MEPHISTOPHELES '74 AUSTRALIA

symphonic prog with mellotron & moog (played by Harris of Madden & Harris - but that means nothing to you, right?)

Onslow 02-02-2021 10:58 AM

Onslow 02-03-2021 07:08 AM
