Stiff Little Fingers
One of my favorite bands. every album of thiers is amazing. the best album is inflammable material.
opinions? |
Inflammable material is awesome. Barbed Wire Love, Alternative Ulster, Wasted Life, Suspect Device...so many great songs
i dont listen to them alot though, dunno why. Ive never heard any of their other albums. |
I believe they were still gigging up to a couple of years ago.
Do you know if they still are? Alternative Ulster and Suspect Device are two of my favourite punk tunes of all time. |
yep, they're still playing gigs. i'd love to see them.
|
Best band to come out of Ireland in the late 70s.
*Waits for boo boo to castigate him* |

I also think The Pogues were a better irish punk band. =) |
Dirty old tooooooooowwwnnn
Dirty old tooooooooowwwnnn I do like that song |

Yes, Stiff Little Fingers are good but I agree with boo boo for the most part.

Fast, catchy, fun.
Not all too much substance though. |

Surely the subject matter alone shows substance. |
The subject matter had substance, but I think it terms of that oompf or pazazz (i'll never use those words again), they didn't get there until the later years. Still better than those...Pogues...
C.A.: Joy Division in the car? Kinduva boring, gloomy car ride, no? ;) Try some Kings of Crunk. |
With lyrics like these;
Take a look where you're livin' You got the Army on your street And the RUC dog of repression Is barking at your feet Is this the kind of place you wanna live? Is this were you wanna be? Is this the only life we're gonna have? What we need is... ...An alternative Ulster. When it came to putting across a political statement, I'd say they showed some oompf. When it came to pazazz, then I'd agree with you entirely. (I to will never use those words again). |
i like them a lot, killer
|
Ah yeah, Northern Ireland isn't exactly great for music, but I do like Stiff Little Finger. They used to be friends with my dads cousin, before they were famous of course haha.
|
They came along in my shuffle a few times today, and I felt like bumping.
I don't mind the fact that it doesn't have too much substance. |
I made this wee viddy while ago: Dailymotion - Ulster Troubles (1979) - a Music video
I couldn't be bothered to get around the audio recognition thing on Youtube so upped it to dailymotion instead, which ruined the resolution, but I think it makes the point that the Stiffs were far from a harmless pop group |
good band, i used to think they were made up for the sake of high fidelity but obviously not haha
|
inflammable material is one of the best albums ever.
|
Go For It and Flags and Emblems are my own personal favourites. One of the bad things about living down in Aus is I dont get to see SLF every year anymore

Stiff Little Fingers
At the 2014 Rebellion Festival in Blackpool, Jake Burns of Stiff Little Fingers, thanked fans in the crowd for supporting their recent Pledge Campaign, which 'enabled' the band to produce their new album. He then said the rest of us who didn't financially support the campaign could and I quote, **** off. As a fan of over 35 years standing who has paid thousands of pounds following the band and buying all their albums and singles plus tons of memorabilia though did not buy anything from pledge, I was deeply offended. I emailed the band to tell them so and received a reply from Mr Burns who told me what he said was a joke and I should treat it as so. Well sorry, but I don't think it was funny. love to know what other rock fans think about the situation.
|
I love their first album, like, a lot, but I don't care all that much for their other material, sadly.
|
Inflammable Material is fantastic, one of my favourite punk albums and the sound of a young band who had something to be genuinely pissed off about. They released some good material after that but they slowly got less interesting. It also puzzles me how much Jake Burns voice changed over the course of their early albums.
|
Inflammable Material is one of the best albums EVER. lot's of their other stuff was great to. Just a shame that Jake Burns showed his true self at 2014 Rebellion Festival when insulting SLF fans who hadn't supported their Pledge campaign
