...But still a great list, although I havent heard of This Great Decay or Keystone All-Stars
|
This Great Decay and The Keystone All-stars are basically local bands here in Pennsylvania. This Great Decay is actually my boyfriends band. They're rather new, and they've got potential. They sort of bring back the old school punk rock n roll that has dissolved around in this area. As for the Keystone all-stars....legends as far as the local bands go. Punk rock as well. Although they broke up a couple years ago...

Why do i not see Atreyu or Killswitch Engage on your list?
|
Atreyu...i did forget them didn't I, good call. Killswitch engage, i dont think i am fond of
|
This Great Decay.. Sounds like a song by Cursive - The Great Decay.. hmm interesting.
|
Oh and on a note to Thrice, since you are a die hard fan of thrice, you shall like Strike Anywhere. They cross some of the same lines as far as music goes. The vocals for Strike Anywhere are more raw and like one octave deeper than that of thrice. Check them out honestly!

You are right, however, they didn't go for the song title first. The meaning behind their name is just about life basically. We go through life from the first day we are born already another day closer to death. Not to be mixed with modest or pessimistic assumptions, but its true. This Great Decay means inevitably dieing the beautiful life we live. |
I see. Is that a theme commonly touched on in their music?
|
Well not exactly, but everything they write is reflected upon their personal lives as individuals. There isn't one person writing all their songs either, I mean if someone else in the band has something, they'll most likely infuse that in the song somehow.

Killswitch Engage is good...So is Norma Jean and Between the Buried and Me. But yeah, Good list. I like/have heard of all the bands except the two locals on that list.

...damn I'm really starting to think that all these labels, and sub-categories of sub categories are really lame.

It used to be "Good Bands" and then a list. I think I'm getting old or something.

Well look at it this way. Dashboard Confessional and Slayer are both rock bands right? But very very differnt styles. I admit sometimes catagories are very different. But explaining the a band to someone whose never heard will be alot easier if you can say their pretty metal-core or the play scremo style And I consider ETID noise-core because it is a genre that has no prediefined limits. Hell The Locust are just noise. and their good and original but ETID? AMazing and noise-core (at least in my book) |
sorry. but when i think of noise bands i dont normally think of singing, breakdowns, tech guitar and clean musical skill. i think of experimental music, using anything (not necessarily insturments) to create noise. noise music isnt really music but more of an audio art. everytime i die is a metal/hardcore band. they are really good (especially about 2 years ago when they were still from buffalo) but they arent noise at all.

Hardcore, rugged and raw, on the streets of New York, we live above the ****ing law. :) |
I cant believe I forgot one band. WITH HONOR. Great band!

key word in my statement was core. As in Hardcore as in taking elements from both genres and making them into one aural assault |
I agree with all the first list but add this New Jersey band called One Win Choice (their on PureVolume) and this band-
THE F-UPS: http://fans.fanpimp.com/thefups/?fus...ncidmilk_41:10 |
The F-Ups are actually really good. I don't usuallly like sorta poppy punk music but I was surprised how much I like them. Much props. Purevolume isn't working for me so I can't tell you about the other band...

god i hate all this labeling. |
Agreed, music is music. There is already enough labels, no need to make labels underneath labels.
|
Well David, since I can't put what I'm trying to say into words, I guess you win this arguement. And I also think to many sub-labels are ridiculus but I like having a classification system. Maybe not as crazy as it gets but...
