I know what you mean, but don't let that put you off.
Try the first album...self titled. I think you'll like them, or better still the BBC sessions...great live.

The first 3 are worth a listen...'Psychedelic Furs','Talk,Talk,Talk' and 'Forever Now' or/and the sessions album, a mix of their best stuff and live too.

^ Psychedelic Furs - Midnight To Midnight.
From 1987...sorry it's the only one I have on cd (price of being my age).
Not their best and very 80's. In my opinion it signalled a down path.
Still, it has some good moments.

I LOVE the furs

Heaven is one of my all time faves

Sparky 03-08-2007 03:55 PM

wow. Not alot of response for this. Been listning to them for a while, alices house, here come cowboys, highwire days. All really catchy an nice :) its amazing these guys didn't get more popular

lucifer_sam 04-13-2009 05:08 PM

just recently discovered the Furs. fantastic band, debut on par with Wire's Pink Flag. i've yet to hear anything after Talk Talk Talk but i will be watching out for it.

Farfisa 04-13-2009 05:16 PM

My mom is crazy about the psychedelic furs... or atleast I still think she is. I've never really cared that much for them, too generic 80's-ish.

Alfred 04-14-2009 03:49 PM

I used to know a few songs. Maybe I'll listen to a full album some time.

I love the furs, especially Forever Now. President Gas is such an amazing track!

Can anyone recommend similar bands?

Big FURS fan here. Richard Butler has a really contagious voice ala Ian from Joy Division.

For similar bands maybe try Love Spit Love, The Church or Echo and the Bunnymen.

Davey Moore 04-05-2011 08:35 PM

Hell yeah this song, definitely my favorite of theirs:

There's too many kings wanna.......hold you down.

DoctorSoft 04-07-2011 05:59 PM

I quite like this song.

Sneer 04-11-2011 05:47 PM

Their first 3 albums are gold. Mirror Moves and Midnight to Midnight were disappointing and I havent checked out anything after the latter. I'm more than happy to stick with their early 80's stuff.

Liljagare 04-22-2011 06:23 AM

One of my favorite bands. I preferred their earliest stuff (especially their first album. "Sister Europe" is a gorgeous tune.) but I have never not liked any song they put out. I never really considered Richard Butler to be a great singer..but for some reason, when he sings, I just really enjoy listening to it, regardless of the tune. Besides the bands reccommended, I would add The Smiths, (early) The Cure, Dragon, OMD, and perhaps even Ultravox (not the same sort of music..the Furs were not Synth but Midge Ure has a very good voice). Room Nine as well.

No, not a big fan. The Furs were considered "punk for preppies".

PerlJammer 12-05-2011 04:41 PM

I'm not quite sure they're punk, but they were good. They're getting a resurgence on Pandora.

Engine 12-09-2011 03:59 AM

This is honestly my favorite song by the band. Pulls the heartstrings every time for real.

Howard the Duck 12-09-2011 04:51 AM

i only have a comp, All or Nothing At All

doesn't sound very much interesting to me, i only liked their later "synthpop"

Push 02-29-2012 05:19 AM

The first Psychedelic Furs album is awesome... They were great live back in the day too... I saw them at the Futurama Festival in Leeds in 1980 (along with U2, Echo The Bunnymen, Soft Cell, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Soft Cell and tons more) and they were fantastic...

ikvat 07-25-2020 03:40 AM

They're back in 2020. One of my 80's fav band.

Definitively not a punk band.

Tubeileh 10-28-2021 10:00 AM

LOVE MY WAY, ITS A NEW ROAD

THERES EMPTINESS BEHIND THEIR EYES
THERE DUST IN ALL THEIR HEARTS
THEY JUST WANT TO STEAL US ALL
AND TAKE US ALL APART
:drummer:

facelessbanter 12-31-2021 11:27 PM

Love The Furs! I enjoy the cynical bend to their lyrics.

I saw them live back in the day on the tour with Phil Calvert (ex-Birthday Party) on drums, along with a cello player. Good show.
