Famous Monsters was my first Misfits album, and actually my first punk album. Had I not heard the band with Graves first, I couldn't have gotten into the Danzig stuff. The Misfits opened up a whole style of music to me, and I'm glad they did. I haven't listened to metal, classic rock, acid rock, or any of that stuff for a couple years now. Just punk, ska, and reggae.

Why?

I like Graves' stuff quite a bit, more than the danzig stuff honestly.

Graves was "cleaner" sounding. Then I knew I liked his stuff and figured, "Hey, this is pretty good. Lets listen to a different album". Danzig was raunchy for a new punk rocker like me, but now I love Danzig.

The production was bigger and cleaner, but vocally Danzig is much cleaner and pronounced than Graves. Part of the reason that those old Misfits recordings have retained charm over time is that Danzig's vocal takes were outstanding, often times without an audible flaw, and that's over chicken scratch distortion and drums, depending on when it was recorded.

All in all, old Misfits has an everlasting nostalgic charm. The vocal melodies themselves on those recordings are infectious.

Absolutely correct. Danzig was a crooner.
Exhibit A: Hybrid Moments, vocals recorded in 1978.

One of my favorites.

Kind of off topic but this girl also does it a lot better than Graves.
