The imfamous line uttered by Steve Jones, "What a f*cking rotter" effectivly ended the interviewer's career, and brought punk rock into the lime light.
My question is, had Jones not said that, would Punk (and the Sex Pistols) been so popular? |

The interviewer was Bill Grundy who was a famed alcoholic. The Pistols were plied with drink all afternoon in order to get an "interesting" interview but it backfired when Jones started swearing. Any interviewer worth his weight would have cut the interview there and then, but Grundy goaded them on asking them for more "naughty words".....the rest is history.

Yes people swore before Rotten and yes there were bands that played instruments before that sounded punkish but lets just accept this forum would not have a punk section had it not been for the pistols. Just as it doesn't have a skiffle section. Wake up and smell the coffee for the love of God. |

Yeah and he never worked again and died shortly after.
Like you make out he was ticked off and he came back with a game show for old ladies on Grampian Tele six months later. It ruined his career and he deserved it for trying to ridicule young blokes by comparing them to Motzart. You make it sound like he was presenting Mr and Mrs the following autumn. That show started punk and got all the squares protesting outside halls and got it all over the media. That kick started the revolution from crappy rick wakemen prog rock to music with balls and the world changed. (not including the floyd in prog rock bashing.) Have you had your coffee! |

And he did work again , on several things actually like 'What the papers say' which was one of BBC2's top rated news programmes.
