The Gits

Perhaps one of the last great American Punk Rock bands, the Gits verged on fame until singer Mia Zappata's tragic rape/murder.

Known for their fiery live performances and street level attacks from Zappata, the Gits managed to become a hit in the then Grunge focused Seattle music scene.

I applaud the Gits for not only being a great punk rock band, but also for keeping alive the role of the true female rock artist. It is most often men, not women, who are attributed to being creative musically. The increasing amount of "fake" female artists who relied on producers and songwriters stood in stark contrast to Zappata, who not only wrote the songs she sung, she had a great deal to do in the composing of the music itself.

**** yeah! I love The Gits. And rock on to one of the women who keeps me going past all the sexist remarks.
