Noir désir was/is one of the most influential band of the French rock scene. In 2003, during a jealousy crisis, Bertrand Cantat the ND lead singer, killed his girlfriend, the French actress Marie Trintignant, as he was drunk.

I lived in Cahors one summer (ex wife is French)
and listened to these guys a lot. French rock is pretty lame
as a whole - the country is much better at producing films, fashion, cheese and wine. ND were a real band with a sid and nancy vibe though

The Noir dés are neither a country/folk band nor a world music band!
Does it mean that rock and roll can only be sung in english?

Noir Desir was always referred to as Folk Rock ... well all the french rock bands are anyway.
