Damn this thread is making my head spin. As punks we should all stand together against homophobia (which is not the opposite of homosexuality). Gays and punks have so much in common really. The alienation, the discrimination, the feeling of exclusion and the standing out like a sore thumb.

As punks we may have been picked on a bit. We shouldn't turn around and pick on homosexuals. They are like us.

You completely missed the point of his statement... Even though some of it is a bit misguided, I think he raises a valid point in not discriminating against gay people.

I'll humor you, though and explain... Like all subcultures, cliques, etc, stereotypes arise as well as ridicule. One stereotype of punks is that they are violent... this is not always true, and one stereotype of male homosexuals is that they are feminine... this is also not always true. Gay people are made fun of as well punks...

Of course, people can choose to be punks, while homosexuals cannot help being gay. This is where his argument is a bit flawed...

I don't think Armstrong was homophobic, he lists Freddy Mercury as one of his influence.

so? Eric Clapton lists tons of bluesmen as influence and that didn't stop him from going on a racist rant.

I had to look that one up. Yikes! One more reason to not like Clapton for me.
