Couple of punk Movies and my thoughts on them
The last few days ive been watching punk rock movies on youtube and google I would of posted links to let thoughs who want to watch them but i not allowed to post links yet sorry..
but any ways the first one i watched was called "Punk Attitude" which talk more about the attitude and no the music of punk about being punk from the 50's to now .... the second is "Punk is Not Dead" which i thought was along a well informative movie but did make a few points that punk did not die but it did sellout to corporate America and the whole. But I thin both of these are good movies for though that want to learn the history of punk |
I've seenn punk is not dead, a good movie, yes, but nothing I hadn't already seen in "American Hardcore"
|
Good to Know now i dont need to watch that movie which i was going too..

Potential stupid question, but what did you think of SLC Punk?
*curious* |

How is 24 Hour Party People by the way? I've heard it was good haven't gotten the chance to see it.

The original Suburbia has to be the best punk movie of all time, and as far as documentaries go, not much beats Decline of the Western Civilization Part. I. |

EDIT: I'm not saying you're wrong - just curious about which bands that you consider important and were neglected by the film. |

I really enjoyed it and would recommend checking it out.

Mostly everything from the South (MDC excluded from this for obvious reason) Siege aren't even mentioned in the book let alone the movie They interview Moby which was a good waste of time etc |

What I liked about the film is that it made me perk up and pay attention to some bands that I had written off as boring or otherwise irrelevant. Most notably, AH made me realize that I had neglected the Necros without good reason and it also made me appreciate DOA more than I ever had before. I think it's a pretty good document overall. |
I don't recall anything on Texas, maybe there was been a while since I've watched it now but the only semi-Texas band I remember was MDC.
Basically this is a good movie for someone like you or a casual follower of the movement. For such a genre documentary I would have expected a more in depth view. |
From TX they covered MDC, The Dicks, DRI and maybe another band.
Actually the 2 films (AH and Letts's) are kind of running together in my mind so maybe I'm confused. |
I've been meaning to read the book - only seen the film. I've heard the book is more thorough

The absence of The Misfits and The Dead Kennedys from American Hardcore is inexcusable, by the way. They skipped possibly my two favorite hardcore bands that should never be overlooked. Oh, and to live up to my avatar, Population: 1. It stars Tomata du Plenty (singer for the Screamers) and has several other punks including K.K. Barrett of the Screamers and Penelope Houston of the Avengers. As far as story line goes it's kind of stupid but I ****ing love the Screamers and I don't have too many opportunities to hear any of them play music. Plus, you get to see what Beck looked like when he was 12 years old. |
Will you stop trolling the forum just to raise your post count? The last time I checked that results in a perma-ban...

The Misfits are covered well in the book, in fact they get their own section, as do Dead Kennedys. I haven't seen the movie, but just in case they didn't explain why Moby is interviewed, in the book they briefly mention Vatican Commandos 7" EP Pregnant Nun, on which Moby played guitar. |

Decline of Western Civilization is a must see, and the always enjoyable "Suburbia" with DI and TSOL...it's great...Flea from RHCP is in it.

I agree on both accounts. There is a youtube playlist out there where you can watch Suburbia. |
