Question Why is Dead Kennedys - Give me Convenience or Give Me Death held in such high regard?

I don't understand how a compilation filled with covers, b-sides, and alternate takes can be more widely accepted than the studio albums. Can someone fill me in on what I'm missing here.

Is it because Police Truck was in Guitar Hero, so everyone buys this one album and calls themselves a lifetime fan of Dead Kennedys?

i'm pretty sure both Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables and Plastic Surgery Disasters are held in higher esteem than that. and if not it's solely for Too Drunk To Fuck, nothing else.

Yeah, I've never heard of this album being held in high regard. But, if so...

I just think it's a solid collection. 'Pull My Strings' is arguably the best Dead Kennedy's song, and 'Night of the Living Rednecks' is fun to listen to. All of the B-sides are solid more or less, and 'Kinky Sex Makes the World Go Round' is interesting, albeit a bit pretentious. The versions of Holiday in Cambodia/California Uber Alles that they have are bad, but other than that, it's good.

Frankly, I'd still rather have In God We Trust Inc.

It's a lot of fun,and showcases a more variety than most hardcore albums. That said I prefer Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables.

for some reason my friends think that plastic surgery disaster is their best album, I don't see it, Frankenchrist and Fresh Fruit are my favorites

I can't speak for today's newer fans. But in the early 90s when I picked it up (vinyl), for some reason it grabbed my attention before the others. Perhaps the cool cover art and the cool name. Perhaps because of the track "Too Drunk to Fuck" (which isn't all that great, but a guy in one of my classes had the t-shirt and it caught my attention...probably first exposure to DK). I don't know. But until recently, it's the only release I'd ever owned from them. Well, still is, I downloaded Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

I'm one album away from owning their studio discography, and this album is my least favorite. Sure, Pull My Strings is an amazing song, but as an album it's Dead Kennedys' worst. I guess I'm just not into people remaking their own songs into lounge hits.

Surely it isn't the best DK album, but I'm still fond of it. I'm on the fence between Plastic Surgery Disasters and In God We Trust, Inc. I don't have a favorite song, but "Riot" is definitely up there.
