Against me!'s New wave album...Makes me sick

I honestly am disgusted to hear this album. What is your opinion?

Great contribution to the forum!!!....I understand that the record is very different than any other AM! album, but they have been moving towards new styles and experimentation with each record. Searching for a Former Clarity is my fav, by I love New Wave. The record is performed well, the songs are catchy, and in addition to expanding on previous subjects they have talked about, there is also new topics that they haven't explored yet.

The album is called "New Wave", did it not occur to you that maybe it would have a "new" sound different from there first 3 LP's? Maybe I'm just nuts, but I guess I just never believed that a band should make the same record over and over again...I'm sure people like you would complain about that too right?

No no...But i personally see this as a very commercial style of music...I didnt not enjoy it at all. The first 3 Lps were quite nice, i enjoyed re inventing axl rose.

you don't have to be sarcastic, just state what you think of it

But that is my right isn't? How's about instead of attacking my posts, follow your own advice and state your opinion like I did, or mind your own business. People get so bent out of shape about what they think is commercial music, but until the band says otherwise, you can be sure they made the record they wanted to.

Bipedpower, thank you for at least elaborating a little bit, but what is so bad about "commercial music". Your opionion is valid to me, you just don't have substance behind it. They made there folkier, punkier albums but have gradually been moving closer to a more rock n roll oriented sound which each record. Life is about moving foward an proggression imho not looking back.

Wow what i said had nothing to do with the music or your arguement, you just seemed a little uneccesarily agressive in your post and now you go off giving my life lessons.

I have nothing against it in general...But i would have to say a band like Against me! was nice to listen to and hear some personality. But when i listen to New wave i hear things I have heard before...Which disappointed me because i was hoping for something new and unique.

Exactly why you needed to leave my post alone, and comment on the music instead of me. You have yet to contribute anything to this thread.

What about "The Ocean", i haven't heard anyone touch on that. And there are'nt too many new topics too touch upon, it's just that Against Me! haven't explored thoses subjectsuntil this album.

How is that wrong? This is a thread about? You guessed it, Against Me! Not about picking apart my posts. Again, how about trying to contribute something to the thread? Are you capable of that task? Again what do your posts have to do anything with the band? I'm sure youre not smart enough for a real response. But shame on you for post picking, back to talking about music,
I'm not the type to pick apart other peoples posts without contributing to the thread.

million dollar basher 11-19-2009 02:12 PM

In an attempt to jumpstart this conversation and to do away with any cattiness, I'm going to posit, though it's probably been stated on numerous ocassions in this thread, that "New Wave" is not on par with "As the Eternal Cowboy", my absolute favorite Against Me! album, but that it's not the worst thing they could've aimed for. In fact, "Thrash Unreal", when compared to some of the other soulless junk on the top 40 stations, was a damn good single.

chrisjamieson 11-20-2009 08:37 PM

I feel bad for the people who apparently don't listen to any bands on major labels. While I don't really love "..Cowboy", I think Reinventing Axl Rose was absolutely flawless. That being said, I also think New Wave is nearly perfect also. Sucks for people who want bands with amazing talent to stay in basement shows, but I imagine it sucks even more for the bands who lose fans because they gravitate as artists to know that people are so hatefully bitter that they deny them artistic integrity.

Phillyboy 11-20-2009 11:55 PM

^^^ Both great comments. I don't feel as they lost a bit of integrity, they message is basically the same. I get that I'm in the minority as I'm not a huge fan of Reinventing...., but I love ...Eternal Cowboy and ....Former Clarity just as much as New Wave, all for very different reasons.

million dollar basher 11-24-2009 02:25 PM

Reinventing is definitely one of my favorites. I just think that "Cowboy" was a turning point for the group. For me, the album is really a document of an immensely talented group who had the rare opportunity to put together a well-produced album on a major label without compromising much.
But I agree with one of the previous comments, that it's really sad that some of their earlier work has gone largely without due credit or praise.

bullettoedenrocks 11-29-2009 05:34 PM

honestly not a fan of theirs at all but the record had great production. and they kill it live.

million dollar basher 11-30-2009 10:08 AM

Yeah they do. I saw them with Social Distortion a few years ago, and they were on it.

Axiomatic Wiki 11-30-2009 05:00 PM

LOl @ this thread's first page of posts.

Have not heard of the group, if someone could link a video from that album this thread is about, would be awesome.

UMMMM Very Very good!!!

And I apologise for the 1st page of comments people like that piss me off big time

HotFunkColdPunk 12-06-2009 10:01 PM

hahahaha

Yea, I'm a big ass AM fan,
but I heard at some shows Tom was refusing to play like every old song the people wanted to hear,
so I guess they sold out pretty hard.

I don't even care though.
The old stuff is still good,
that won't change.

If bands would just get ****ed up, play music, and have a blast,
it would be a pretty perfect world.
But I guess **** just can't be that easy..

boh#33 12-20-2009 05:26 PM

so they sound more commerci'l. sometimes there could've been some more guit'rwork. they're still good songs.
