and there aren't any "bad" post-punk bands because the only bands that people really know of the genre are joy division, new order, the smiths, the cure, wire, swans, gang of four, and a few other misc. ones. it was a niche genre back in the day and is especially niche now. i love it, think it is awesome, but only a few really stand out bands came out of it.
There are a lot of bad post-punk bands. A lot.

For my money it's Joy Division, but special props goes to Gang of Four.

I also agree with Daga and Paloma, every genre has good and bad and there's certainly post punk bands that don't float my boat. The Fall and Echo & The Bunnymen mainly.

And I pretty much detest post punk revivalism in general.

Savage Republic, The Fall, Joy Division...so many great bands.
And I can't stress enough how much I love Savage Republic. I have four albums - I think that's all of them? I especially like that dusty, desert quality of their sound.

Their so pop punk it ironic post punk. Probs the best neo-neo-post-modernist kind of art available.

everyone who likes post punk needs to check out The Gordons ... excellent, fairly chaotic band from New Zealand in the early 80s. Here's two songs of theirs...

YouTube - Gordons - Adults and Children
YouTube - THE GORDONS - 'Future Shock'

It's a Situationist stunt to get people to buy the same record multiple times that got out of hand.
