Operation Ivy
Well, these guys are soooo great!
they really got the punk feeling down pat! Sound like they just come out of a garage or basement, very real! Knowlege was great! and they covered these boots are made for walking ! really good cover! even though all their songs are in the range of the 3 or 4 chord talent genre, sometimes simplicity is the key to great music.... |
I've always liked Op Ivy, although I dont listen to them much anymore. Personally just kinda tired of hearing their songs, I used to listen to them nonstop when I was younger. Artifical Life, Vulnerability, Here We Go Again- that's the good stuff.
|
I like them a lot. Don't know what else to say in these threads.
|
Ive liked Op Ivy for quite awhile. Funny how i heard they broke up cuz they were gettin to big and didnt want to deal with all the bs, only to form Rancid??
but i guess if thats true, they had no choice but to get big. They have a good sound and it was gonna blow up no matter what name they went under. |
wow, I cannot ****ing belive that I never peiced that together....!
Op Ivy is Rancid? I feel like such an idiot! O well, live and learn, maybe it is because I listen to more of the oldschool punk, and I don't really follow the personal lives too much of the bands...but it will take me a long time to live that one down.... |
It was Jesse, the lead singer, that didnt like the fact that they were getting big. Tim Armstrong ("Lint") did back up vocals and guitar (he sings on Bad Town), Matt Freeman played bass- those were the two that went on to form Rancid. Funny story is that they were looking for a second guitarist, and Billie Joe turned them down. They ended up with Lars who was in UK Subs. That turned out well obviously. I'm surprised you didnt know that though. Either way, Rancid's built up a name on its own, without the connection, plus both bands were quite different.
|
well, like I said, I don't follow the bands, just the music, but yeah, you would think I would know at least that about Billie Joe!
like I said before, you learn something new everyday! That is what I love about this site! |
Stop this Waaaaaaar!
|
there ain't no war going on here...this is the best Hookers and I have gotten along in a long while...
|
If Im not mistaken, that was Operation Ivy lryics for Unity... But then I suck at remembering song names. Could be somethin else altogether..
|
once again I feel dumb! How could I not have figured that one out! I love that song! DUH Anarchy!!!

nicely done |
Actualy Op ivy has said many times that theyre wasd no mythical reason as to why they broke up. It wasnt records offers or fear of selling out it was just the band deciding to call it quits. I've read interveiws about op ivy with Mat, Tim, and Jesse and they all said the same thing. Check any good op ivy site.
Anyway I loooove operation ivy. Awsome band, I cant say much more than that. |

Operation Ivy
wasn't sure where to put these guys, someone told me theyre ska, someone else told me they were punk. i dont really like using that word, punk, it annoys me. but anyway, i have their album 'energy' and its is ****ing great. really cool, great great music. post

You probably should've just put it in the existing
Op. Ivy thread. Decent band, though I never got that into them. Also, what 's wrong with using the word punk? Now skacore, there's a term you can disdain. |
I was into Operation Ivy for about a week once when I liked punk. I don't care for them anymore but the way some people hype them you'd think they were much better than they actually were.
|
Hum, ever since hearing Transplants and Tim's voice, I was never the same. I think Operation Ivy really speaks out a unique style of music which I really feel deep within.
From the first time I heard "Yellin' In My Ear" all the way to every time I hear "Unity" ... there is no stopping my toes from tappin' Simply great band, glad they broke up only because if that didnt happen, we would of never had Rancid... |
my favorite song by them is "take warning"
they're have more of a ska sound, but they definitely have strong punk roots |
they may be anti racist, but then their anti ghey
|
Op Ivy was an amazing band. So many of their songs were so, so good.
And what's wrong with skacore? haha |
