F*cked Up

Does this band seriously have no thread? I did a search and could not find one. If there is one, my bad and merge!

http://media.eyeweekly.com/images/9c...b0b8c67af.jpeg

Anyways, this F'ed Up is pretty much the best punk band of the past decade and one of the best bands to come from Canada in a long time. The Chemistry Of Common Life got a lot of love from this forum, and pretty much every critic in '08, and rightfully so.

So if you haven't listened to them before, here are two of their best songs.

Discuss!

Rickenbacker 08-29-2010 11:26 PM

Fucked Up is coming to my town next week and I'm hoping to get a ticket if I can. The venue is really tiny, which should make their music sound even bigger. These guys are pretty great, and seeing them would be really awesome.

Pretty good album here, and definitely worth checking out. The only thing I could possibly think of that would turn you off from this band is the singer's voice, but everything else is pretty amazing.

the singers voice is the only thing about this record that makes it even sort of sound like hardcore punk. if anyone has a problem with it they should stick to the arcade fire and stop pretending to be into "edgy" music.

Yeah, what's wrong with his voice? It works in the context of the music.

Dr.Seussicide 08-30-2010 09:31 AM

It does work for the context of the music, but at the same time, like I said, it may be the only criteria that would raise the most subjective opinions.

Obviously that statement was very opinionated, but I would love to hear which punk bands of the past decade you think are better. This is not an attempt to start an argument, this is me asking for your recommendations.

But back to F'ed Up, I've been meaning to check out their EP's and singles. I've only listened to Year Of The Pig so far, and it's fantastic. Has anyone else listened to their many singles/EP's?

Well, that and the screaming vocals...

Surely a retro hardcore sound would at least be punk "by today's standards"? The basic formula hasn't really changed that much...

Wuh? They have a bunch of songs that are like six minutes long...

Violent & Funky 09-01-2010 01:08 PM

Listen to 'Son the Father' from the OP...

Alfred 09-01-2010 02:12 PM

Even "Son The Father" is pretty straight-up punk once you get past the intro. It's basically just three chords, a moderately fast tempo, and screaming about the birth of civilization and God.

Jester 09-01-2010 05:07 PM

I made a thread for them a while ago, guess it got lost somewhere.

it sounds like alternative rock. its not even fast.

Does fast mean that it qualifies then? F'Up are an OK listen but nothing ott..and they sound nothing like Alternative Rock. Unless they sound like the Killers or summat....

well on some level yea, being fast does qualify it. hardcore is generally pretty fast music. i was talking specifically about that one song; honestly i haven't listened to a whole lot of this band's music because it bores me to tears.

Alfred 09-01-2010 08:51 PM

The funny thing is that we're all arguing about hardcore, and I never said anything about hardcore in the original post.

punk, hardcore, whatever. i'm using them interchangably. deal with it.

also whether you included it in your original post or not they are commonly referred to as a hardcore punk band so i really don't see why you think its "a funny thing"

Alfred 09-02-2010 11:32 AM

Me saying that about F*cked Up is clearly a matter of personal opinion. This is a music forum, nothing can be objective. "Punk" may be used interchangeably with "hardcore" by a lot of people, but that was not my intent.

And for the record: I am a big Cancer Bats fan, I love all three of their albums, and I enjoyed the first Gallows album. I just find F*cked Up a lot more interesting to listen to.

Alfred 09-02-2010 01:17 PM

Yes, the bands you posted certainly define the term better than F*cked Up, but I like F*cked Up not only for their energy, but for their more experimental tendencies (more noticeable on later releases).

I think CAPTAIN CAVEMAN's right. It's fucking annoying when people retreat with, "Well, it's my opinion."

Alfred 09-03-2010 09:57 AM

...as if I really needed to add that.

Caveman's smart enough to know it's an opinion, he just enjoys dissecting posts and starting arguments off of single lines.

Jester 09-03-2010 09:14 PM

"It's my opinion" is for pussies

Alfred 09-03-2010 09:39 PM

Seriously, what else am I supposed to say? It is, after all, my opinion. I'm sorry, I can't put it in any better terms.

I've seen many other cases where people have made statements like I did, which are clearly their opinions, but no one calls them on it, so they don't have to use the hated line.

Just because not everyone calls it out all the time doesn't make it not true.

Don't be silly. One of the best ways to learn more is to explore other people's perspectives; one of the best ways to do this is to argue. We need to build a stronger foundation behind our viewpoints, we need to learn how to express them well and learn how to reason so that we can learn from each other. Retreating with nothing but "well, it's my opinion!" is pointless. It makes everything trivial.

On F***ed up: I like this music. It sounds good.

On above quote: agreed.

Dubstep 10-09-2010 11:02 PM

I've known about this band a few months, they are pretty average in my opinion.

Definitely Unique, haha.

Saying they are the best punk band of the past decade? I completely disagree.

Alfred 03-26-2011 10:06 PM

Anyone hear the new song? It's blowing my mind, David Comes To Life is easily my most anticipated album of this year.
