Muse copies Nirvana

Just watching some Palladia today and I watched Nirvana at the Paramount then Muse at Rock at the Ring.

Found a shockingly similar performance of Nirvana ended their encore with "Endless Nameless" off of Nevermind and Muse finishing "Stockholm Syndrome" with some freestyling.

Both had a very similar rhythm/lead transition pattern, feedback, and randomly tuning of the E string throughout.

I doubt Muse was really trying to copy this, but it REALLY turned out similar.

What kind of prison sentence do you expect them too receive off the back of having a similar sounding song to another song in all of history? I say ride them, hard.

It's bound to happen.

Thanks for the info.

What's the point? Lots of bands sound similar.

noblitz 04-10-2013 08:11 AM

I guess I'll just start playing Smells Like Teen Spirit and call it my own then.

dust1n 04-10-2013 11:18 PM

That's not right, I wrote Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Well there ya go ^_^

If you don't think they were consciously ripping them off, what's the problem?

Muse is a good band and their sound doesn't sound anything like Nirvana
so just cause they sounded similar on ONE occasion it doesn't mean they're ripping them off

here's a true Nirvana rip off

There are so many songs in this world that it'd be really hard to write one without having it sound like another one. It's not a big deal.

Muse does it regularly. I'd say fifty percent of their material is borrowed. I like some Muse thought so i'm not necessarily reprimanding them for doing what everyone has done sice gregorian chant, borrow elements from others music. One strikingly similar one i noticed and have mentioned several times is the following songs.

Listen to the keyboard and melody from ABC. Then listen to this next song by Muse.

Striking resemblance or at least I think so.

"It's true.♫ It's true.♫"

Another thing the intro (the first 7 seconds) sounded like Garbage, and I don't mean it stinks like the trash you throw out, I mean it sounds like that 90's alternative rock band.

XtremeEclectic 04-13-2013 11:53 AM

Meh just about every band samples one song or another from different artists. I dont really get rapped up in the occasional similiarity between bands. Why not go after or bother with all the bands that cover and destroy nirvana songs?

Moog Bass 04-30-2013 03:11 AM

Love Nirvana hate Muse. Too wanky!

PunkKitten138 05-04-2013 04:10 PM

I have to agree with Xtreme, a lot of bands borrow and sound alike in a few songs, its bound to happen. And this isnt the last time its going to happen.
