Bit of a sweeping generalisation there

Of course the pistols are for nostalgia.
How can they change the world when they already have. it would be like Newton discovering M=EC2 again!!!!

It is just retro for us old (middle aged or slightly younger) to enjoy.
Leave it at that and stop expecting new revolutions from old soldiers.
I went to se stiff little fingers at the astoria last week and it was nostalgia and fun.
Same with rolling stones and even oasis to a degree (although they make the odd good song still)
Just enjoy them for the old farts looking for a new holiday home they are.

Damn i love the Pistols I think they were really influential and i guess people don't realise it now, but back then acting like they did was insane and no one had ever done that before. Now there are all these fake poseur "punks" who go around doing all that **** and its become more common/normal. Because of all that, so many people just think punk was just rebelling coz it was cool or just for the sake of rebelling. But the Sex Pistols really had things to rebel about. Anybody who's seen Filth and the Fury knows they talk about how working class life in England was hell at the time. Nobody could get any work and it was disgusting. The Sex Pistols inspired people to form bands like Morrissey, Ian Curtis just coz people would think "I could do so much better than them"
I know they weren't exactly amazing musicians, most of them could barely play their instrument (except Sid who couldn't at all..) of course no amazing song structures, amazing tunes or anything, but the bottom line is, they f**king meant it. They're messages made great statements to the society and even still do today (eg Pretty Vacant.) The fact that they're still valid today makes them live on.

The fact that they were even in Guitar Hero was an affront to everything they once stood for. I think it's like Ethan said, "Anarchy in the Retirement Home." And I think if they ever produced a new album it would be an insult to their prior musicianship.

I think the Pistols were a good band, I think Johnny Rotten is hysterical. I never did get the fascination so many had with how "great" Sid was? from everything I've ever read, he was a lousy musician and didnt get along well with his band members too well.

That being said, I loved their album, and think it was innovative and ahead of it's time, and they DEFINITELY were, and STILL are "Punk".

Yeah, i had someone the other day tell me 'Sid Vicious defined an era' or some malarky like that. I don't think he defined anything apart from the fact that taking smack isn't the best idea ever.

Agreed, that glorification is epitomised in the Sid and Nancy movie. John Lydon discredited the entire thing and frankly I'm inclined to believe him.
There was an interesting and seemingly very well researched article of Sid Vicious in Mojo years ago and it posited that maybe he wasn't as dense as history would have it, with the whole art school background...? Nah

Exactly!! I mean I've heard a few interviews w/Johnny where he's said that he and Sid didn't get along most of the time, infact, most of the band didn't get along w/Sid, and he wasn't even their original bass player was he? some "legend"?:rolleyes:
