I don't really think I Wanna Mohawk is being sung from a personal standpoint, he does say "I may be ten years old..." I still can't decide if that song is meant to be taken seriously, but either way he's obviously not complaining about his own situation.

Did i say the lyrics were whiny?
i said "sounded as bitchy as havok"
His voice is extremely whiny on the old AFI records.

cardboard adolescent 12-03-2005 01:59 PM

I agree his voice does sound extremely whiny. For some reason, unlike most other bands, it just doesn't bother me.

Old green day is pop punk, everything after dookie was modern/pop rock.
Besides the guitarist from the buzzc0cks said it himself "i didn't know who they were, but i know they sure as hell weren't punk" or something like that.

Quit trying to cover up your mistakes and looking like a fool. Just admit that you were wrong and take his words of wisdom and next time you post think about what you are going to say.

How can they qualify as something that hadn't started when they were in their prime? Again quit trying to agree with everyone and state your own damn opinion. Jesus Christ you are worse then most hypocritical church goers...

cardboard adolescent 12-05-2005 05:39 PM

Early Less Than Jake is most definetely ska. Pezcore, anyone?

As for The Misfits, I think they're a hardcore punk band as well, they may have dealt with zombies or devils in every other song but that didn't really define their sound. They may have had some "classic punk" songs, but most of their songs have a more metal feel to them, which to me characterized hardcore.

sleepy jack 12-05-2005 05:39 PM

The misfits didn't get started till around the 80s..
They had no guitar and keyboard in the 70s.

50 cent isnt bluegrass metal no matter who is listening to it. Genre isn't opinion. I'll agree there are some grey spots, but don't think you have ultimate control over what genre your favorite bands are.

Thats your problem, you think. Don't think it will help everyone forget you.

sleepy jack 12-05-2005 06:03 PM

Genre is an opinion.
I can say i think "so and so" are metal.
You can dissagree.
and i can go on and on about it.
and think im right therefore them being metal to me.
Everything can pretty much be an opinion.
But opinions can be wrong.

You don't sort things by opinion. That would be dumb. Genre is not opinion, it is used for sorting. You are dumb.
Are you just trying to throw out whatever you can since you have nothing left to say on the Death Penalty thread? Because what you just said doesn't really fight against anything.

You didn't read what i said.
and i havn't checked the death penalty thread and either way i dont hold grudges.
(almost) Everything can be put down to an opinion, genres being one of them.

mosesandtherubberducky 12-05-2005 06:17 PM

^ Genres are not very opinion based, and Opinions are something that grey stuff like genres and heart surguries.

Really think about it.
If i were to say green day were metal wouldn't that be my opinion on it?
It would be wrong, but my opinion none the less.

Right. But you said that an opinion could be wrong. Hence, not an opinion. That makes it either right or wrong. Not opinion. And no, not almost everything can be opinion. I can think of a lot of things.

An opinion can be wrong

A belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof:

is the definition of it.
an Opinion can be wrong because all it is, is someones thought on things.
See what im getting at now?

Well. That definition is pretty ambiguous.
"but not substantiated by positive knowledge" only because a true opinion is something that can't ever be proved or disproved. The musicians who made the music were the ones who decided what kind of music they were. Their opinion is our fact. Once it reaches us its no longer up for discussion.

sleepy jack 12-05-2005 06:28 PM

Um...green day reffered to american idiot as a "punk rock opera"....i refuse to call that album punk..its not even pop punk.
