How did this strumming pattern+tempo become so prevalent in modern punk?

In modern punk and pop punk, from the nineties to now, I hear this strumming pattern A LOT. Here's some examples of what I'm talking about:

It also always has that same type of drum/tempo in it. Speaking of which, that drum itself is even more prevalent in modern punk.

Somehow it makes me want to move my head to the guitar pattern instead of the drums 0.o.

I never really hear it in late 70's/80's punk as far as I know. Where did it come from? Who started it? Why is it so prevalent now? Does it have a name?

That reminds me alot of Citizen Fish circa 1989-90. That whole ska vibe is pretty resounding.

I've noticed it too. Honestly, soon as I hear it, my mind auto-files the song or band into the punk genre. Great question.

I'd say the 90s, early NOFX and Blink182 had that kinda thing goin on. 80s pop punk was still mostly rooted in hardcore with stuff like Dag Nasty/Descendents/Husker Du.

My reference to it is Nofx as WD mentioned but idk if they invented but it works, doesn't it? something about it clicks..

that chord progression is very over used as well i know tons of songs with that same pattern but they slow it down

yeah, Each time I hear it, I automatically think it's punk, even though it originally wasn't in the genre at all.
Same goes for that ''fast'' drum.

I now consulted the allmighty let's talk music subreddit. Someone might know..

Its simple and they're too lazy or they're scared to do something different. Or they talent is limited. There's some extremely complicated structures and a lot of fancy music terms used in a small percentage of bands that I've come across. Some had their own scene, others get lumped into playing shows with the overwhelming amount of cookie cutter bands.

But I love it for some odd reason. I still prefer 70's and 80's punk overall though.
