1001 Punk Albums You Should Hear Before You Die

If we're going to have one about Metal there'll have to be one about Punk.
Why?..Because I'm not well versed on Metal. Any type of thing even remotely punk is welcome.

I'll start with an obvious one:

1. Minor Threat - Minor Threat [EP] [1984]

Just an essential Hardcore punk album.
I suggest the compilation version that includes the ''In My Eyes EP'', since the two combined makes for a pretty much perfect minor threat record.

Here's a top-notch punk album from one of my all-time favorite punk bands, sometimes referred to as "the Canadian Clash"...

D.O.A. - Bloodied But Unbowed (1984)

D.O.A. really are legends out here, especially in southern BC. They came around to play a show at a small bar in my hometown a year or two ago and drew the most peculiar crowd seemingly out of thin air, the place was packed with middle-aged suspender-sportin' combat boot bald punks from Vancouver, probably the first time that bar has ever put on a sold out show. They absolutely tore the place apart. The only pit that bar has ever seen, chairs all over the place, broken glass across the floor, floor slick with sweat. Our band also got to play an opening slot in Vancouver that year for one of Randy Rampage's side projects.

Now that I think of it, they're playing nearby on the 30th, maybe I'll go check em' out again.
Anyway, my first addition to list:

Poison Idea - Feel the Darkness (1990)

4. Ramones - Ramones [1976]

Another obvious one.
One of the first garage rock bands to actually get called punk rock, and a classic album. They started the whole traditional pop punk sound found in bands like Screeching Weasel, the Queers and Teenage Bottle rocket. Very simple, but catchy and enjoyable songs.

5. Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables [1980]

Adding to the obvious pile. Dead Kennedys' debut studio album and also their best. Politically-infused lyrics heightened by fast and frenetic guitars make this absolutely essential listening.

^JennyOndioline, an obvious choice, but obvious for a reason. It's ****ing awesome.

Since we only posted classics, here's a pretty new one I like.
6. Direct Hit - Brainless God [2013]

A great pop punk album with a high amount of energy. It's done really well, and somehow they stand out with their sound despite not being too original at all.
Oh, and it's actually a concept album. Almost all of the songs have youtube videos that belong together.

This was one of all-time greatest albums in the genre. It changed everything. No getting around it, no arguing it so just accept it and shut the fu-ck up.

Oh, come on, it's funny!

Duude, sorry for your efforts but you're supposed to post one or two albums perpost! If we did it like this all the time than we might as well let one person make the list..

For your post, let's just go with 7. Black Flag - Damaged.

Lord Larehip 01-24-2015 09:24 AM

Duuude, your trying to set rules on a thread about punk music?? Surely you realize that's a bit of a contradiction. and with the level of participation in this forum for any thread that isn't mindless bs--and I'll count this as a reasonably meaningful thread--you'll never reach 1001 albums going one at a time. you won't reach 101.

Aside from that, my participation is over. I've said what I came here to say.
