Novi talas (Yugoslavian new wave)

Is someone into Yugolsavian new wave? I think that it was the greatest new wave scenes after, obviously, USA and UK. I' ll write somethink about that in the next days/weeks, but for the moment i want to talk about Republika, one of the greatest new wave bands from Poland and one of the most knows. Their sound is charaterized by cold guitar riffs, groovy bass sound, flute, piano patterns and especially by the passionate and intense voice of Ciechowksi, the vocalist and the leader of the band. They are often considered the Polish Talking Heads. Maybe the language at the first times can be difficult for a listeners that is not from Est Europe (like me:D) but i think that this kind of music, should be appreciate and enjoyed by anyone. Their debut album, Nowe Sytuacje, sold 360 000 copies in 1983 alone and was an instant classic in Poland, but for me this is just a masterpiece of the entire new wave/post-punk genre. Here are some of the songs from their debut:

If you like these songs, there' s also the entire album:

Republika releases other materials that, if they didn' t compare their debut album, are still great works. In the future i' ll talk about other bands like Kult, Idoli, Maanam and others.

Let's make the thread about eastern european new wave in general, before some nitpicking buzzkill like me starts pointing out that Poland isn't yugoslawian.:D

Ahahaha ****, that' s right! Also because here we can talk also about russian, ukraine, bulgaria and other countries not from Yugo.
Edit: I think that i cannot change the title, maybe only the mod/admin.

Dunaj (from Czechoslovakia)

Aukyton (from Russia)
Their latter stuff is jazzier and more acoustic, but the early albums are pretty new waveish.

OK HOLY **** I NEED TO LISTEN TO MORE! Republika is pretty freaking awesome.

I am gonna say something that may be a bit weird. Republika sounds like they are Two Tone Ska. Wait wait I can back up my claims, so its sounds like Two Tone Ska without the reggae beat which does not make it Ska....so it sounds like Two Tone New Wave? some songs like System nerwowy sound almost on the cusp of being Ska....yet it just stops it self from doing so.

This is very interesting....granted I might just be too hung up on the Polish Ska Band Akurat to stop thinking like that.

Hmm another strange turn, Dunaj with their Industrial sound pretty cool like.

Aukyton's album starts off as Ska then Evolves? into New wave Ska...before becoming some pretty awesome New Wave. That is one strange album.

Thank you for sharing this here. I don't think I would have checked myself about polish new-wave bands from the 80's so this is a more than welcome thread for me. I liked what I heard on your youtube links, I will definitely check more later.
