If someone says "hardcore" by itself they are talking about hardcore punk

If they mean "hardcore thrash" or whatever they'll just say that

Are you living in a 1982 time capsule elphenor? Punk and metal have been influencing each other since the early 80's.

He did a perfect job of laying out the history of hardcore. Grindcore and crust punk were all started by punk bands & crossover thrash bands were originally hardcore bands that were influenced by the heavy aggression of thrash metal.

Musical genres and their cultures aren't static, they're constantly evolving.
