New York Dolls

Many people call The Ramones the first punk band. But, the Dolls were first and influenced The Ramones and every other punk band that followed.

I paid 25 cents for a promo copy at a flea market. If I'm correct, I had the album before it was released. I was 12 and living in our first house when I bought this, and that was in 72. The album was released in 73.

It's strange that the band hated Rundgren's production. The album sounds as fresh today as it did in 73. It's also strange that many punk bands who were influenced said things like "After hearing the Dolls we knew we could do it". "Terrible musicianship". "So bad it's great".

All I hear is great songs played really well. No one has ever been able to copy Thunders sound or playing.

Long Live The New York Dolls!
