Neither groups were necessarily "put together" by them; they were more like collaborators, using each other's work to promote each other's work. The Pistols, on the other hand, are more intertwined with McClaren than the VU were with Warhol thanks to the Pistols' short time span of existence and the sheer emphasis placed on the fashion, the commodification of the punk aesthetic.
And I wouldn't say that making headline news, topping the charts, and making coin was a failed experiment. |
