Mohawk OR Dreadlocks?

My hair is starting to get pretty long now and im trying to think of something to do with it. Do you think i should get a mohawk or dreadlocks? If i get a mohawk i would only put gel in it for shows. if i get dreads i will only put honey in it sometimes.

what you think?

I'd go with a mohawk. In a few rare cases it might not look good on a person (I.E: an old white woman wouldn't look good with a mohawk) but I think it's safe to say it'd probably look good on you.

Go dredlocks. My brother did dreds i really liked them. I think with mohawks everyone has them, its the new cook hip thing, but then again thats the same for dreds. But if you do go with dreds do it right dont try to take the shortcut or anything. If you want i can tell you good shampoos to use and good little tricks that worked on my brother

SATCHMO 09-05-2005 10:45 PM

I'd say neither. Both are attempts to be something your not

All_Nite_Dinah 09-05-2005 10:52 PM

stick your head in a meat grinder and see what happens. Thats the real punk thing to do.

But really dreads are a pain in the ass. And mohawks are just silly. I would probobly go with dreads but they take lots of work to not look like ****. Both lack originality though if thats what your going for. I also dont like dreads as just a fashion statment.

MURDER JUNKIE 09-06-2005 01:25 AM

dreads are filthy and should be outlawed. Have you ever stood beside someone with dreads? It smells like they are made of ass hair. Once again, DISGUSTING!!!! Think about it:usehead:

anticipation 09-06-2005 11:36 AM

i think the fact that you come to a forum on the internet for hair advice is pretty weak.

maybe you should take this to the Supercuts Forums.

Get a nice sensible short back & sides

HuKitKat 09-06-2005 11:40 AM

dreads only smell like ass hair if they arent washed (by washed i dont mean sticking your head under the shower once a week). They are large clumps of hair and they hold water and they will start to smell 'mildew-ish' if no soap is used or if they arent dried properly.

However, I think mohawks and dreads are ridiculous. Mohawks look silly and dreads require long-term commitment. When you're sick of them, ya gotta shave your head. That sux!

not true, i know several people that had dreads at one time and didnt have to shave their head, my wife being one of them. It just takes about a dozen combs, a bottle of baby oil, and alot of patience.

HuKitKat 09-06-2005 11:45 AM

^ how long did she have them in?

HuKitKat 09-06-2005 11:47 AM

im not thinking of dreads that you twist yourself. im thinking jamaican dreadlocks where your hair becomes matted together (they arent pretty at all). The best you can do is part it at the scalp (maybe) and attempt to connect the new growth to pre-existing locks.

Yep, a friend of mine had his dreads in for about 3 years, and he didnt have to cut 'em off. Surprising really, he didnt really care about 'em too much, if you ever took the time to look properly, you'd find bits of cotton and random beads, and one time a jigsaw piece...

But then he turned all sceneXcore, so he's got rid of em now. :(

Imonlydancing 09-06-2005 01:51 PM

My cousin had dreads...but then he has them all shaved off after a while.

Umm Dreads or mohawk...probleh dreads.

FallenAngel01 09-06-2005 02:19 PM

Dreads. I think mohawks look kinda stupid. ><

she had them for about 7 years maybe somewhere around there. nice fat dookie dreads, she still misses them every now and then.

Trauma 09-06-2005 04:03 PM

I'd get dreads.
I'm really considering getting them now. My 'scene' haircut....(refer to nothingnice.com "Making fun of hipsters" and it looks almost identical to the guy on the right of that sketch minus beard)...is getting a little long...and dreads look much sweeter, to me, anyway.

rockme_amadeus 09-06-2005 04:12 PM

try not washing your hair for 3 days. voila...instant dreadlocks.

.angie. 09-06-2005 04:20 PM

Yeah, dreads. Totally.

Common Misconception.

Also the smelly part.
Dreads have to be clean to be able to lock better at first.

I'm not saying that they can never get dirty or smell bad but you are way off.

SATCHMO 09-06-2005 06:25 PM

Yes, the natural oils in your hair will prevent dreadlock from matting. Washing your hair (but not using conditioner) actually promotes the matting process. Dreads can get smelly if not properly taken care of, but more importantly, especially if you don't have curly hair that dreads up easy, you have to worry about bugs. Not just lice, which can be a major problem, but all kinds of critters will lay eggs in your greads if they're not dense enough to prevent them from getting in there. Black people tend to not have this problem because the kinky curl of their hair dreads quite densely. Make sure you treat your dreads with some good Tea Tree oil which is a natural insect repellent that can be found in any health food store. It can also help with any scalp problems that may arise in the future, and they will.

i say just shave your whole damn head, that looks good and it's simple.but if you really want dreads or a mohawk, dreads take lots of work and these days everyone has a mohawk.so just get a bowl cut or an afro, that would be so kick ass.
