Very well put, I did try to read it all?

Very informative! Thanks for posting

I would like to add this point to the discussion... Some people are using hip hop as a teaching instrument or a teaching tool... There's actually a teacher in California who raps. (He has turned mathematical lectures into rap songs.) Not only that, the students actually perform extremely well on math tests. Hip hop can actually be the ultimate solution to academic problems. Maybe teachers need to move away from traditional methods of teaching. As for the rapping math teacher, if you would like to search for his youtube videos, by all means, be my guest.

Someone could probably teach a class on deciphering Wu-Tang lyrics. Especially their earlier records, I don't know what the hell they're singing about most of the time, but the music is so good, I don't care. Still, it's clear that they have something on their mind besides the usual 'Papuh and Bitches' crap that Tupac and Biggie always sang about. Especially impressive when you consider that, as RZA says, 7 of 9 of them are repeat felons and at least one of them was a full on crackhead.

I haven't heard this song in ages. I just now recalled it. It's great song:

Lil Kilo 12-23-2015 01:17 AM

My words are suicide like the thoughts in my mind. I rap so good you wouldn't believe that im white. Besides my skin pigment when you see me in sight. Its alright. My girl nags me about talking to her more. Opening up about my feelings like im a door. Close my eyes but no dreams appear. That's probably why im almost losing all of my hair. Im only 16 and I gotta lot of stress. Dont get to see my girl my brother or my dead friends. This life man it's so wrong. Been dealing with the pain for too long. But good memories are what's making me hold on and stay strong. More emotional than a sad song. I play poker and laugh. Im the joker with a mask. Im lighting bolt fast. I predict the future,I live in the present, and I laugh at the past. Never die like im Jason.
All these words are just crazy. Listen to what I am saying. Cuz were bout to get groovy. And my words are blowing up just like a Micheal bay movie. Im sittin in class but im no normal ass student. I'll be taking notes and ill be writing my music. No hesitation bro imma just do it. Turn a dick into a pussy like Bruce Jenner. Im a beginner. Im a winner. I remember as kid, telling stories at dinner. My dad would always come home dirty. He had no worries. He's not it in a hurry. Telling me not to grow up fast. God I wish I was a kid again like I was in the past

Great job with this history of rap. You being a fan of this genre, do u think that this type of music has in some way influence the way you think or view things? For instance, ive noticed that my views towards certain society issues has changed throughout time, after many years of listening to artist suchas 2pac and like the ones mentioned on this post. It would be great to hear if anyone else has this same thing happen to them.

To comment on whether there is another MC out there with the lyrical edge like 2pac, there aren’t too many. Treasures like that are usually buried in the dirt of civilization in hope to climb from the ashes of the fallen ones before them. You are intrigued by the mystery of a man who taught himself to accept when rejected and love when hated by the same men he once called brothers. It hurt 2pac that he seen what he once knew as a life to live become the destruction of his people and decided to lyrically change the foundation of himself. In short da man is da truth and that world was not ready to embrace him as they are today.

Lupe's discography > Eminem's discography.

Frownland 07-11-2020 07:45 PM

If anyone from Drain Gang is GOAT it's ECCO2K and they're all kinda nothing without Whitearmor.

I'd put Pharoahe Monch, Andre 3k, and Jay-Z up against that group any day of the week.

I do like material from all of them though. Doom's discography is too inconsistent and his style of rapping is a little too laid back for me, Biggie has two great albums and a wonderful legacy, nothing bad to say about him - Busta's first album is an absolute gem ('Everything Remains Raw' for my money is the best song he ever did), but his 'extinction' theme got played out by the second album. And he's got too much filler. When he's on point though, he's on point. Flipmode Squad's debut is a little underrated though.

The Batlord 07-13-2020 09:13 PM

I've only just in the last few months been getting into MF Doom but honestly he just has this feel of being the purest of backpacker hip hop that's like comfort food and you just wanna turn it on and chill out. I'm not someone who dick sucks all over his lyricism but that is pretty fun too.

Fair enough, Madvillainy is great and Mm...Food is good too. What are your thoughts on Aesop Rock or Mos Def/Talib Kweli if you're into backpacker hip-hop?

The Batlord 07-13-2020 10:24 PM

Never listened much to Aesop Rock but Black Star is my absolute ****. I ****ing love the way Mos Def and Talib trade off lines like an old school hip hop album. It has such great energy. Talib Kwali's first album is fine. It's good. I like it. But his next album is kinda whack. Mos Def's Black on Both Sides album however is a ****ing masterpiece.

Norg 07-14-2020 12:15 AM

never really heard of anything for jay Z's possie

it seems like most of the big solo rap artist always had a group of friends they ran with

Busta

Jay Z

new orleans rappers

memphis rappers

bone thugz

SNoop

wu tang

etc etc etc

im just saying the sadboy cliq has a unit have alot of good tunes

I agree with every sentiment, except for Talib Kweli's second album. I remember loving "The Beautiful Struggle", but granted, it's been years since I've listened to it.

If you haven't heard Aesop Rock's 'Skelethon' album, might be worth checking out. Probably his most accessible album and still one of his best.

Frownland 07-15-2020 09:35 AM

Float>Bestiary (Hail Mary Mallon project)>Labor Days>Malibu Ken>projects that I'm not super familiar with but don't mind>None Shall Pass

Are you considering Black Star to be his first album?

I was thinking you meant Talib solo albums.

The Batlord 07-15-2020 10:58 AM

Nah, Train of Thought. That album is sweet.

Damn, I forgot about that one. I'm almost positive I own it and have listened to it. I'll have to revisit it.

The problem having just an old school selection would be so few people would submit, as if I stuck to strictly Old School, I would only choose about 5 records, for most the Disco Rap era is quite a niche sound for people, and most find it, dare I say boring?
