to say who is the best rapper is a point of view so know one is ever right.

shadowless 04-18-2006 10:37 AM

i think what bcyoungsquad is triing to say is that now a days most maintstream rap and most artist is trash, back in the 90's all s*** was bangin and real, now its like you listen to a hit and thats it forget it they just made the album to make money and didnt put no effort.

You should send me some Immortal Technique. I'd like to hear what's so great about them.

^ Well to be far cas, the first two DMX albums had a little more to offer lyrically than most of his stuff that came after. Even on the album you're talking about, One More Road and The Professional at least shows some storytelling and MC ability on DMX's part.

TrampInaTux 04-19-2006 03:40 AM

Yes, it is definitely time for a change. Rap is turning into a trend, not a genre. The age group for rap has lowered considerably and it has now lost a lot of it's credibility due to rappers gunning for that market all the time. I know it makes a lot of money but where are the days when a single rap song could change the world? They are going, and if rappers don't do something soon they will be gone...

MURDER JUNKIE 04-19-2006 03:48 AM

once samples were subjected to royalties rap took a nosedive, I am actually surprised anyone listens to it at all. Unless you are like Necro and just steal anything you like without any fear of lawsuits, he actually used "Billie Jean" on a song completely lambasting Michael Jackson.

As far as I am concerned with the advent of internet downloading, samples should be public domain once again

Couldn't have said it better. Not everybody is going to agree on who's the best.

Richiedude 04-19-2006 08:07 AM

Rap/Hip Hop needs a shakeout or changeover - it is as bad if not worse in terms of silliness and being repetative as 80's metal got.

cas 04-19-2006 10:44 AM

Modern rap = 80's Hair Metal

And for the record... Any "best MC" list that doesn't have Jean Grae at or near the top is a joke.

i must say i'm more disenchanted with hip-hop today than ever before. being from the south i am not impressed with what's considered hip-hop these days thanks to alot of the music heard on the radio today. news flash people, the down south movement has turned hip-hop into the new club music, it just replaced house music. there was a burst of creativity when the dirty south got it's turn but it's just sound alike garbage these days. having been alot of places and lived in socal and virginia i am really aching for some other region to take hold. but that's really why hip-hop is so phony these days. how is it that one region is supposedly making the hot sounds and every one else gets ignored.

I said exactly the same thing a while back....

GODD ONE

I AGREE TOTALLY :)

cas 04-19-2006 05:17 PM

The "Southern sound" hasn't changed much, if any, over time. Cash Money is just the modern version of 2Live Crew.

You were on track for the first half, then you lost your mind. Rap hasn't changed. You have to understand that that new club music you're referin' to is three separate genres of music that's just grouped in with rap. Being "snap music," "crunk music," and "hustler music." Each with it's own taste of "club hop" That you can pretty much break down into three basic elements. In "snap music" you have the repeating chorus, simple beats and hyped flows(i.e. Dem Franchise Boyz, Lean Wit' It). In "crunk music" there's more lyrics and a more complicated beat but that same constant hype(i.e. Bubba Sparxx ft. Ying Yang Twins, Ms. New Booty). Then in "huster music" there's less hype in the flow, a more complex beat and rhythmic, well structured beats(i.e. Rick Ross, Everyday I'm Hustlin').

thanks for explaining, it still all sounds the same to me. one thing i've learned since being away is every time i've returned home people in the south never let anything die, witness the hundreds of bustops, for those who don't know it's a line dance also called the electric slide. the endless sound alike bass songs that come out of florida, and i could go on and on. so i guess this is what the rest of the country has to put up with. can anyone say "knuck if you buck"

Step away from the crack pipe, check into rehab, and graduate high school. Then come back and talk to us again.

kdog 05-05-2006 08:23 AM

that was funny, but i don't stoop to insults. you seem to be real touchy on subject matter concerning the south. here's more, the south ain't running things as people like to say. most other regions of the country have always enjoyed musical forms from the south but thats all they want and maybe a little bit of the cuisine. creativity and innovation you usually have to look elsewhere because in the south they never seem to move on to the next thing. here's a fact: i did graduate high school, 3 yrs college, have travelled the world and back extensively, locales as diverse as perth, australia to van-town. in case you did'nt know thats vancouver, canada. why is it that florida is the fourth most populated state but not many trends seem to seep from there as with cali' and n.y. answer: here in this thread.
