Grime/Garage

I notice there aren't any Grime/Garage threads, Grime is a genre that started from garage in the UK. Some grime artists you would of heard of alot of the you haven't. I'm a grime artist myself and personally i think people should premote the music. myspace.com/deviousmc Thats got a few of my songs on it check them out thanks.

I'm interested in grime, but I really know very little about it. Grime artists are featured in The Wire magazine a lot though, which is where my interest comes from.

OK I listened to Dizzee Rascal's new album, and I hear he's considered grime. I enjoyed it, a lot, so I shall check out sum more.

Try:
lethal bizzle, wiley, roll deep

Dizzee was one of the original exponents of grime and his new album is superb. I am not a huge Hip Hop fan, but his new album is extraordinary. Any fan of good quality British music should at least give this a listen. Forget the image of a chav pleaser that seems to be associated with him, this is top quality stuff.

I'm a chav, so it's all cool with me. It's all gravy, man.

You're actually admitting that, wow just wow.

GravitySlips 06-08-2007 06:56 PM

yeah, like I said, it's all gravy.

What's grime's status outside of the UK? Are there any other countries picking up on it?

I know nothing about the non-chart stuff but I love Dizzee Rascal and I think he fully deserved his Mercury Music Prize.

The same as our hip hop scene (admittedly small!) no one outside of the UK give's a gnat's chuff about it. America is absolutely saturated with Hip Hop, so they don't need ours! Their loss in the case of Dizzee Rascal!

Grime is awesome I got into that last summer. I like Kano, The Mitchell Brothers(which aren't really grime to me but w/e), Dizzee, Sway!!!

Sway is like the best to me. He's mad funny!
He has a song called Pepsi....where he's rapping over that song Tipsy's beat

The Mitchell Brothers have a new song called Michael Jackson that's just pure awesomeness

That's genuinely quite sad but I suppose you're right... they wouldn't want our exports when the market's already saturated.

Lady Sovereign did give it a go but she didn't do as well as people had expected and she's hardly representative of the stuff we've got.

I completely forgot about Sway. :p: He was winning awards as well, wasn't he?

I first started listening because I thought his vocal style was weird (think of Little Derek and you'll know what I mean if you don't already) but after a couple of songs I was hooked.

Reviving this thread because I just discovered Chipmunk's new single, "Beast." It is pretty hot.
