Takin it back....

More and more artists now are starting to incorporate madd heavy electric guitar and rock-based beats, like the pioneers of rap such as Run DMC and the Beastie Boys...now I like that old school raw def jam feel just as much as the next dude, but should the young dudes leave it alone or try to bring it back?? Most of my cd's got nuthin but dmc on play, and hearin these new cats try to bring it back feels weird...:shycouch:

I know what you mean I'm personally getting tired of everyone jumping on that bandwagon....all of a sudden everyone want's to be a "rockstar" wtf!?!?!

FreshKidd22 09-23-2007 12:19 PM

For real though, first some dudes that nobody hear about make it big just by saying " totally dude!" and " party like a rock star!" then Ludacris comes out with a song named" rock star" it needs more of a message than just a chant with some music in the backround. I think everybody should listen to run dmc or the beastie boys and learn how to incorporate both styles correctly..:banghead:

Ludacris' song isn't named rockstar....I believe it's R. Kelly's song but he's on the track. Chamillionaire has a rockstar song off his new album , I believe Twista even has a rock star song also

yeah my bad on that I forgot. man that's crazy i didn't even know about all the rest of them! that makes them seem really not original!

Indeed. The Beastie Boys kick @$$ I still listen to them, but I didn't like the last album that much.

No Sleep Till Brooklyn, Fight For Your Rights, and Open Letter to NYC are some of my favorites.

yeah man i feel u, i'd have to say out of those 3 no sleep was my favorite but as far as all time favorite i'd have to say root down or intergalactic planetary

It's not necessarily bad if people take stuff from the past and bring it back. the Beastie Boys and Run DMC probably got it from someone else too... Everyone get's his/her influence from somewhere.

So if you like the old sound, shouldn't you be running around like a mad man that this style is ''hip''. So new people who use it emerge, and your music collection can broaden?

Yea their just reifying the rock star image... but in terms of using rock sounds.... experimentation is always a good thing.. it just sucks when it gets over done.... but look at kanye's new ****...... stonger is ground breaking i think

True, Stronger is a good song. But the other stuff by others isn't as good. Oh well, I guess it's all about trial and error, hopefully the ones that aren't good stop doing it lol.
