I wonder what Dre has his doctorate in.

Rapping

I was thinking maybe northern renaissance art history, but you may be right.

You can get a degree in that nonsense? (Art, not Rap. Rap makes sense)

I always thought Dre was an average rapper. The fact that he doesn't write his own stuff doesn't get him any points in my book either.

He is an average rapper. Fortunately for him it's his other skills that he's famous for.

really. Dr. Dre was never a average rapper. It was that Dr. Dre never cared so much to rap but preferred and still prefers to produce.

I think average is putting it nicely tbh.

He's even admitted people write his lyrics for him. Hip-Hop is about the narrative and he's not even writing his own stories, the things he says don't come from him, for me that's such a flaw if you're in Hip-Hop, how can you be anything better than average as a rapper if you're not writing your own lyrics? You can tell who wrote them just by listening sometimes as well.

Fair enough he picks and chooses what he will use but it's not the same.

I've also heard he uses ghost producers as well, which disappointed me but I dunno how true it is.

p.s. does anyone have anything where Dre actually wrote the lyrics and rapped them?

Goofle 05-31-2013 04:46 AM

I don't care if he didn't write his own lyrics. It's not like the music he makes is there to be analysed in any great detail in the first place.

I totally disagree with the bolded. If that were true there'd be no such thing as instrumental hip hop or non-narrative lyrics in hip hop, and there are plenty of both out there.
