And a lot of it is shit. It is mostly about the narrative, doesn't mean there can't be sub genres or that instrumental Hip-Hop can't be made.

The main focus is primarily the rapper and what they're saying. Most of the shit rappers are the guys with nothing to say. And Instrumental Hip-Hop in terms of proper releases is relatively new I'd say.

Well on a lyrical level maybe not, but on a production level, you could analyze Dre in incredible detail.

In terms of lyrics though, it still matters how the verses are structured. If the rhyme scheme is super simple and it doesn't flow well, it'll still be garbage, even if the subject matter is the typical gangster anecdotes.

I disagree that it's mostly about the narrative. There is certainly a history of storytelling in hip hop, as there is in a lot of music such as country, folk, rock, etc., but that doesn't mean in any of these genres it's mostly about the narrative. This is music we're talking about here, which means it's mostly about... the music. And even if you're just talking about lyrics, I'd say that the majority of hip hop lyrics aren't stories.

Yeah I agree. A lot of it is braggadocio and battle raps.

in what way? He was the weakest guy in NWA. He didn't write any material nor contribute anything in ways of production.
He was just a gimmick. The hip-hop world hasn't missed him at all.

Eazy E was pretty much a hype man.
