Top 25 people in the game that should stop rhyming

Top 25 people in the game that should stop rhyming

By Arasia Graham

Disclaimer-This list is not just for naming off garbage emcees because a lot of people would have been named first in addition to some of these people not making a list of that caliber. These are emcees and rappers, you know what……………..JUST READ THE DAMN LIST!

Lil Wayne-Granted, he has gotten better since he first emerged onto the scene but he is like that bad ass kid in class that can do better but opts not too.

Fat Joe-He gave us two classic albums, but amid all of that he jumped the shark with Jealous Ones Still Envy. They stopped being envious after Don Cartagena.

L.L. Cool J-Gifted he is, but like the rather annoying reality shows…his career as an emcee has run its course.

Young Jeezy-Young MC, Young Joc, Young Berg….see a pattern here????

Jay-Z-He said it best himself, “What more can I say?” You have said enough Shawn.

50 Cent-If he spent as much time perfecting his art and less on propaganda, we might just get some good music out of him. Just a side note…don’t ever say I love you like a fat kid love cake, AGAIN.

PDiddy- Just because you can find talent, doesn’t mean you are talented yourself. This is the man that gave us Press Play and Forever. Need I say more?

RZA/Bobby Digital-We need you to bring back that genius that gave us 36 Chambers. This is the classic example of when in Rome do as the Romans do. Sometimes, you should let the Romans do them and stick to what you are good at.

The Game-He focuses so much on other rappers and emcees, I think I am listening to roll call in Hip Hop 101, 7th period. Is it time for lunch???

Memphis Bleek-If you are close friends with Jay-Z and you were signed to Rocafella at its peak and still couldn’t crank out one good verse, it’s time to check the classifieds. I think Dame and em’ could have fit the fee for ghost writing in the budget……Ask Foxy what Jay charges.

Trina-Not one good album yet. Let it go baby, let it go.

Nelly-This is the man that tried to teach us Country Grammar. Was he serious?

Tony Yayo-He is just….wrong.

Will.i.am-We need you to step away from the mic and get behind the boards. Thanks.

Mobb Deep-Ever heard someone say, if it aint broke; don’t try to fix it…..

Rick Ross-Impressive sales does not equal impressive talent. Please reference JLO.

Ja-Rule-When I heard Venni Vetti Vecci, I ignored the obvious channeling you were doing and gave you some credit. But, when the singing kicked in with the bubble gum pop tracks, it was a rap. No pun intended.

Missy Elliott-I love your eccentricity and creative mind but that does not mean that emceeing is your forte. Please refer to Rah-Digga, Lauryn, and Lyte. They will tell you where to go.

Jim Jones-Anyone that is in a crew with Cam’ron and Juelz Santana is garbage by association.

Pharell-Please reference will.i.am

Flo-Rida- These are his lyrics…

“Bending Ghetto booty, playing the ghetto booty on her.
Roll up machilles don’t smoke Arizona
One night stand one night with the clan
One night, one time broke her off 10 grand.
Project all the way gutta all day
Shorty don’t fake she’ll put it in your face
Three stories while them hood rats beg”

……….This verse alone cemented your position on this list. Congratulations.

Snoop Doggy Dog-It seemed like he would have a promising career after blessing the Chronic and Doggystyle but he seemed to get worse through the years. Just when we thought he was redeeming himself, he let us down again. Product endorsements and television shows don’t equate to dope lyricism.

Souljah Boy-Refer to Ice T. By the way, this is a no brainer.

David Banner-Much respect to an educated brother but we need his political and social activism. Nothing more.

Bow Wow-Somewhere he grew but his rhymes didn’t.

you forgot a really important one.... kayne 'bush hates black people' west. not much really needs to be said here, just more booing like what happened at bonnaroo.

Dmizz 08-25-2008 10:03 PM

I really don't see why people hate kanye

FireInCairo 08-25-2008 10:14 PM

kanye? that mother****er? a few reasons

maybe because hes a cheesy punchline rapper with mediocre lyrics, overrated production skills and shocking flow.
not to mention an embarrassingly huge ego...ie he wants the bible to be rewritten to include him...

Dmizz 08-25-2008 10:28 PM

My opinion still stands and compared to other rappers with his popularity he is underrated

FireInCairo 08-25-2008 10:47 PM

i would say he is one of the most overrated piles of dog**** ever to have graced hip hop
but of course you are entitled to your esteemed opinion.

Im with you.

And I totally disagree with Hola Hovito. He might be past his prime...but even when not at his prime..he's faaar faar better then most.

BlckDeth 08-25-2008 11:12 PM

Young Jeezy in the same sentence as Young MC? Call it nostalgic appeal, but I've always liked Stone Cold Rhymin', whereas Jeezy is just plain awful.

Well, I don't think you can really defend Graduation, but there's some dope tracks on his first two albums.

how can one of the biggest names in the rap scene be underated? he gets more hype than almost anyone out there, thanks to a real talented praise worthy rapper aka jay z.

i agree that jay z should hang it up though. i was so impressed by his talent, vision, and lyrical ability to write songs with meaning as opposed to "i got rocks, i got shinny cars, i got all the hoes, im a pro, im at the biggest show, everyone likes me, i drive around so nicely" type **** you get from all the other talentless industry whipped bitches in the game (cough ja rule cough sean puff daddy pdiddy just diddy dumabass combes cough mike jones cough).

jay z's albums are like story books, and goes on to say in the black album "As fate would have it, Jay's status appears to be at an all-time high, perfect time to say goodbye", and then comes out with 2 more mediocore records.

nothing is more impressive to me than someone who "came i saw i conquered, from record sales to sold out concerts" and quits at the top. but unfortunately jay z did the michael jordan 2nd return from retirement (like he said he wouldnt), the brett farve (where once there was admiration, there is now aggrivation), and threw away a legacy. he will always be great, but nobody gets remembered more than the one who is the best at what they do when they leave 'the game'. jimi was a god, but the reason he is a legend is because he had 3 critically aclaimed albums and ended his career (albeit not by choice) on the TOP. everyone would seriously be blowing weezer right now if they stopped making music after the green album.

I like homecoming.

ProggyMan 08-26-2008 06:14 PM

The John Legend version's better. The hook's still pretty sweet, but the verses are so boring...

Dmizz 08-26-2008 08:53 PM

wow is all I can say I like american gangster it is such a laid back album and the graduation was good I not saying either are in my top ten albums list but they were good and homecoming was boring

Fruitonica 08-27-2008 01:17 AM

American Gangster is actually my favourite Jay-Z album. Although, the only others I own are Reasonable Doubt and The Black Album.

His rapping seems about par with his earlier works, and the production feels much lusher and more soulful somehow.

But I do think it would have been better for his legacy if he had stayed retired. Besides, the guy has very limited subject matter and so many of his songs are going over the same sorta stuff.

Laces Out Dan! 08-28-2008 02:02 PM

I thought American Gangster was okay, had some perks. But to say better than The Black Album and Reasonable Doubt? damnn

lucifer_sam 08-28-2008 04:50 PM

I think Wu-Tang has the capacity to release more quality rap, but apart from that I agree with everything else on the list.

I think we need a "25 Rappers the World Should Hear" list happening...any takers?

ProggyMan 08-28-2008 05:09 PM

I could add something like that to my Rap Intro. By the way, anyone want to help with that?

I would love to see this list. I have an appreciation for rap and use to listen to it a lot. I just got tired of hearing every rapper with 1 album out talking about how he is the best in the game. I really prefer a rapper who is the whole package, like Dr. Dre. Someone who can go in the studio by themselves and come out with hit tracks.

Dalek - Absense
Surreal and the Sound Providers - Lost Indeed
The Strange Fruit Project - Soul Travelin'

I wish I knew more obscure rap artists, but most I got from here to begin with. =)

ProggyMan 08-28-2008 08:18 PM

I meant with the whole thing, could you say I'm looking for help in the first post of the Intro thread. I know all those albums, I can handle that part.

jibber 09-04-2008 11:47 PM

more that people should hear. most are more underground artists, some like sweatshop union, deltron 3030, atmosphere (to an extent) are a bit more mainstream.

Zion I
Atmosphere
DL Incognito
abstract rude
Cunninlynguists
Hieroglyphics
deltron 3030 (already mentioned)
Louis Logic
Lupe Fiasco
hilltop hoods
dilated peoples
jurassic 5
aesop rock
sweatshop union
the grouch

ProggyMan 09-05-2008 09:12 AM

Lupe Fiasco is very mainstream. You can walk down the street and hear groups of 12 year olds singing along to Superstar.

jibber 09-05-2008 09:27 AM

this is true, i forgot to add her to the list of the mainstream artists. I didn't say that all of them were underground, merely that they were all good artists to listen to if someone wanted to get an idea of what the more talented hip hop and rap artists were doing, as very few of them get any real mainstream exposure.

FireInCairo 09-05-2008 11:35 PM

and hilltop hoods suck ass
they are the dregs of australian hip hop

@Jibber: Whats wrong with Deltron 3030? Del is incredible.

FireInCairo 09-05-2008 11:37 PM

he was probably just ****...

I've always found it irritating they get so much more popularity than The Herd and TZU, which I would much prefer to represent aussie hip hop.

But I wouldn't say they suck ass..I really enjoy my copy of The Hard Road Restrung.

FireInCairo 09-06-2008 12:38 AM

im not huge on the herd or TZU as i think they are both overrated
but they are both far superior to the "i wanna be an american" styles of the hoods

(sin)TAX 09-10-2008 12:27 PM

Plies needs to stop rapping along with Lil' Wayne (im a hater when it comes to him), Rick Ross, 50 Cent, and others that I cant think of right now.

I guess I just dont care for 50, his flow is weak and his lyrics are garbage. True Wayne is nice, but hes played out...just my opinion.

Kirby 09-24-2008 05:36 PM

Lil' Wayne needs to stop.

He either tries way to hard, or not hard enough.
I remember liking the first Carter.
And hating everything after.

X-RAY 09-29-2008 07:00 PM

^the first carter was deff his prim but he had good stuff before and after
