Default Old Rap

i dont know why, but i never fell for all the new "gangsta" hip hop stuff. I have nothing against people that like it, it doesn't fully bother me, but I have no idea how the idea behind real rap got turned into people that have lots of money in their banks or hos up in whatever.

does anyone have any suggestions for artists or songs that were of the old rap, where it was actually about rhyme rythm and had meaning?
thanks in advance

Because it's not like good hip hop isn't around today.

Generally most of the "gangsta" stuff i thought was prominent in the mid-90's?

Wu Tang clan, Tupac, Biggie etc

N.W.A was from the 80's. Most commercial rappers these days seem less like that stereotype these days.
Anyway, old artists you should check out:
Digable Planets
Black Sheep
Rakim

No.
There were a few good artists(NWA, Biggie, Cannibal Ox and such), but there is so much better stuff around these days.
