Hip-Hop Battle Semi-Final 1
De La Soul
MF DOOM Madvillain Deltron 3030 The Roots I really didn't want to put DOOM and Madvillain in the same heat, but I'm doing this randomly. |
Ah christ. It's really between Madvillain and De La Soul for me, but I don't want to choose just yet. :(
|
The Roots for me.
|
This was easy.
Deltron |
You should have condensed all Doom's projects into one nominee.

and you're an asshole for putting del, de la, and doom all in the same shit. |
But.. Doom's projects don't all sound the same... and that's taking away a lot of credit from the people he's collab'd with.
|
If the Finals = Doom project vs. Doom Project...
I refuse to vote. |
I'm hoping for Del to comeback. Madvillain is the only really good DOOM project.
|
not even, madvillainy is probably one of the most overrated albums of the last 50 years.
and i say this as a doom lover. |
I think it's rated just fine
|
Madvillain, Along with MF Doom, Along with Viktor Vaughn, King Geedorah, and Danger Doom are all overrated.
MF Doom's flow, and subject matter, are lazy and uninteresting, in my opinion |
I'm voting MF DOOM for his signature ****, and his alter-ego projects (including Madvillain). IMO you can't vote for Madvillain OVER Doom, unless you think Madlib made Doom or something.

Beats doesn't make a good rapper.
He's a pretty good producer, but, most of his side projects have other producers. Still, though. I'm not voting for someone based on how good they produce, unless they bring equal talent in the lyricism/content of their albums. |

True enough, I just really like Madvillain.
|
I went Doom.

Oh what the fuck? If Madvillain AND DOOM get through this going to suck.

He has never wow'd me. |

Kirby listen to The Bistro by Madvillain, you can't not like it.
|
That was just him talking over an instrumental. Haha.

Thar's my point. He was just talking and it was stil lgreat.
|
I liked the instrumental, but that was Madlib.
I still stand by the fact that I haven't heard anything great from Doom. |

About 5 years ago when I was first getting into alternative or "underground" hip-hop stuff, I gave DOOM a try and I really just did not like him. I didn't understand the infatuation with the guy. Over the years I've revisited his stuff and grown to like him, and many tracks from his alter egos. I think he's more clever lyrically then you maybe give him credit for-- a lot of times I don't really catch it on a basic listen, but then I go to a lyrics website and read through what he's rhyming... content wise it's not always deep, but rhyme wise it's so creative and hard not to like (IMO). It's a two parts urbandictionary.com, one part pop culture, two parts cleverness, one part genius. You can't go into DOOM's music looking for him to redefine rap content. Overall he'll opt for wordplay and linguistics over content, life lessons, etc- but that's maybe what makes him stand out as different, since he does it so well. I like it, whereas others might just find it "cheezy", maybe you fall into the latter? |
Damn, I'm going to reverse my last decision and go with The Roots. Because having two Doom projects is silly, and he is over rated.
Madvillainy is his only brilliant album, and its brilliance is 3/4 Madlib. |

De La Soul were the band that converted me from one of the "LOLZ RAP IZNT MUZIK" crowd, so my vote goes to them.
I love DOOM, Deltron and the Roots too though, I hate choosing between a lot of artists I like. |
