I like all music where the lyrics have something to say more than just talking about themselves or how amazing they are, but I hold rap to a higher standard than other formats cause the potential for lyric count. if someone is going to cram the most possible amount of words into a song it should be more than an advert for themselves.

I have just been referring to it as 'Intellirap' but is there an actual genre title for that type of stuff?

Joey Bada$$ is FTW. Can't wait his new release. ProEra crew is overall awesome. Recommended for everybody who is tired of trap and miss oldschool vibes.

Really dark, noisy and aggressive group (an MC and a producer), but with a of fundamentals of the classic east coast sound in their style. They get mentioned in the same category as Death Grips a lot, but neither group sounds remotely similar overall.

Hi folks,

Could anyone give me some advice? I'm looking for some artists or songs that would have similar sound to 'Freaks' from Whodini's 1991 album Bag a Trix (seems I can't post a link because I'm new, but you can hear it on Youtube on the WhodiniVEVO channel).

I really enjoy the upbeat tempo and combination of old school hip hop with swing in this track, particularly the trumpets and the singing in the chorus (Bag A Trix might have been my top 5 cassettes just because of that track).

If anyone could recommend some artists that went for a similar sound in their songs, I'd really appreciate it

If you're into non-mainstream hip-hop with a small flavour- mix of other genres too (rock, funk...) then Wrekonize & the whole Mayday crew from StrangeMusic are a much-check-out...

As an Aussie, I'd love to throw Koi Child into the mix. Awesome, instrumental hip-hop with lively sounds. They recently got a big co-sign through Tame Impala front-man Kevin Parker jumping on as their Executive Producer. Let me know your thoughts.
