Bring back the real hip hop??

I wanted to get people's thoughts on if we need to bring back real hip hop to replace all of the pop stuff that is out there right now?

There's always gonna be the pop stuff. I just kinda combine guys like Drake into the whole pop genre cause he's not a true rapper in my book. Groups like Wu Tang are never gonna be mainstream. The hip hop of the 90s is never coming back because nobody is as raw anymore. Those guys actually lived the streets and weren't in the entertainment business as young teens like guys like Drake and Wayne.

I have an appreciation for real rhymers... i appreciate lyrics, flow, rhyme schemes, etc. I don't wanna sit through a verse to wait for the chorus, i like being excited for the verse. I don't want to always dance to a rap song, i wanna jam to it and appreciate it.

Any newer guys who are lyrical, please suggest. Always looking for good stuff out there. It'll just never be mainstream and I understand why and I'm cool with that.

Check out the artists on the Anticon label and Busdriver. They'll never be popular, but their talent is legit.

Some of my favorite tracks in general:

Themselves - It's Them

Deep Puddle Dynamics - I Am Hip-Hop

Alias - Angel Of Solitude

Busdriver - Imaginary Places

Sage Francis feat. Sole - I Apologize

Mos Def - Mathematics

Says the kid that listens to Motion City Soundtrack. :shycouch:

Anyways, I agree with a couple others here.
There's always been poppy Hip-Hop. You just have to look past that and the radio to find what's good.

Yup...there will always be good stuff if you know where to look. There's no need to "bring it back", just open your eyes/ears.

So do you regard Drake as "real hip-hop." Imagine that you don't really see Rihanna as the hardcore hip hoper. WelcheMusic.com covers a range of hip hop artists, but not sure if you regard it as "real".

there's a lot of new acts such as far*east movement - are they hip-hop or what?

There is a magical place in the hip hop world known as the underground, where a number of mythical creatures stay true to the hip hop genre. They are known as the MC's that KEEP IT REAL. How do I find these beings you ask?! It's quite simple, you jump on the net, search for hip hop and open your mind.

I dont think that far east movement should be considered hip hop. We need to designate music such as that as "Music to get ****ed up to". Actually, now that i think about it, its more electronica or something like that. Auto tune and whatnot is just one of the ways to bridge the gap.
