Musicbanter contributors, lend me your ears.
I had this idea just now. Its pretty simple: Lets make a list of rap cliche.
Anything you think is vastly overdone to the point of it not being valid anymore, just post it here and I'll add it to the list of rap cliche. |
Well, how about we start with the obvious? Bitches. Women who are merely there for the performer's enjoyment, just objects that come with the lifestyle. These kinds of women have longed played a part in "tough guy" culture, spanning genres like Gangster Films, Heavy Metal, Action Flicks, and of course Hip Hop. The problem with these archetypal characters is that often times, especially in hip hop, they are just a bragging tool. They have no discernible personality and are criminally underdeveloped concepts ("I got bitches mayne, so many bitches they bitch at me yo")

All rappers having enormous dorks. I do not think that is true.

Rap today lacks poetic passion. Like Tupac had. Actually telling a story in a poetic way. All any music really is saying is the same thing a million different ways. Just on a few different topics really. No matter what the genre.

Album Intros! Don't get me wrong, sometimes they work prefectly within the album, but I don't always need some dude talking over the first 30 seconds of every album I listen to. Also, I don't get the appeal of chopped and screwed albums, most I've heard are pretty lame.

Yeah I just dont have the patience to dig anymore. After Pac died kind of lost interest. Never figured anyone else would top him. Eminem has some stuff I like but doesnt really compare.
