slick rick-childrens story

djchameleon 03-08-2011 05:15 PM

Lupe has so many stories but I didn't want to mention The Cool storyline again. Even though it's my favorite one.

Chamillionaire has a couple of stories but this is my favorite. People need to stop sleeping on Cham he's really really good.

Alfred 03-08-2011 05:34 PM

This one's a classic.

djchameleon 03-08-2011 05:37 PM

lol it's a classic if I listened to Aesop. I don't so I don't know it.

I've heard a lot about him but I've never actually bothered to check out his music. I'm not the biggest fan of 80's rap so I don't know if I'd like him but what would be a good album of his to get?

You should get The Great Adventures of Slick Rick and The Art of Storytelling.

Slick Rick is cool, check out his freestyle over "i wanna rock right now"

CHCl3 03-11-2011 01:32 PM

It's kind of hard to find a version of this song that doesn't have that unnecessary intro, is not censored, and doesn't get cut off at the last couple of seconds but this is a pretty good song.

clutnuckle 03-11-2011 01:55 PM

Not completely, but:

I hear you breathin' but your heart no longer sounds strong
But you kinda scared of dying so you hold on
And you keep on blacking out and your pulse is low
Stop trying to fight the reaper just relax and let it go
Because there's no way you can fight it but you'll still try
And you can try it til you fight it but you'll still die
Now your spirit leaves your body and your mind clears
The rigormortis starts to set, now you outta here
You start your journey into outer space
You see yourself in the light but you're still feeling outta place
So you standing in the tunnel of eternal light,
And you see the ones you never learn to love in life
Make the choice let it go but u can back it up
If you ain't at peace with God you need to patch it up
But if you ready close your eyes and we can set it free
There lies a man not scared to die, may he rest in peace.

That was the first time I've listened to Aesop Rock

Don't really understand why everyone seems to love him.

That probably explains it.

are you saying that listening to him more will change that opinion? I highly doubt it.

it hasn't changed mines

Sparky 03-13-2011 04:55 PM

Aesop Rock isn't exactly the easiest artist to get into. It took me a few listens to click.

djchameleon 03-13-2011 04:56 PM

why though?

why would you torture yourself listening to an artist you don't like to force yourself into liking them?

I never understand when people do that.

Sparky 03-13-2011 05:05 PM

Of course I didn't force myself, I just gave it a chance occasionally until it grew on me. A lot of music takes multiple listens.

I disagree with that....if I don't like it , it doesn't grow on me.

Dirty 03-13-2011 05:12 PM

Nas fanboy here to add some great ones

Rewind (told in reverse)

djchameleon 03-13-2011 05:28 PM

It's very true that sometimes it takes time for the artist's aesthetic to click to the audience; approaching things from unexpected perspectives is a healthy exercise, and can arouse all sorts of new ideas.

Absolute classic, this was the song that made me fall in love with BIG's music. His flow on this was immense, and the beat is legendary

reelmuziq 03-13-2011 10:18 PM

New artist who speaks messages like the greats.

Theres a new hip hop artist out his name is Christian Bindah. The album is Rock Bottom the life of christian. Check out the info on this up and coming artist. reelmuziq.weebly.com There is a story in almost every song.

hoof123 03-15-2011 12:24 PM

I've got a few that haven't been mentioned:

PdotS, how do you guys embed the video in the comment? I tried copy & pasting the youtube embedded code, but that didn't work?

Wrap the series of characters that appear after the "watch?v=" in [ youtube ] tags, like so (quote my post to see what I did):

hoof123 03-15-2011 04:28 PM

Ahh awesome, thanks man.

Another one, pretty simplistic story, he goes for a bike ride because he's hungover.... but still.

And this one...

And one more epic J-Live tune.

I definitely agree with this, if you approach thing with an open mind, sometimes a change of perspective is all thats needed. If you approach with a closed mind, it won't matter if you approach it differently because you already have a preconceived notion that you won't accept the idea.

Back to Aesop Rock, I didn't use to like him at all either. One of my friends was an avid listner, and he slowly grew on me. I'm still not a massive advocate, but there are allot of his songs that I do like/love. Infact, I really like all of Labour Days.

And as for Aesop Rock, I hear what you're saying about listening to an artist more than once to appreciate them, there are artists I didn't really like at first but now love, but with Aesop Rock, I really don't have the motivation to attempt to listen to him anymore.

[QUOTE=Phzed;1020744I really don't have the motivation to attempt to listen to him anymore.[/QUOTE]

Haha, fair enough, maybe one day he'll grow on you. El-P is another artists, that I hated when I first heard him, I'm still not a massive fan.

Bane of your existence 03-21-2011 07:16 AM

The story in this song is insane. Always been a favorite.

Thrice 03-22-2011 10:53 AM

One of my personal favorites. I don't know if it is considered a rap song, but it is pretty fucking awesome.

hoof123 03-24-2011 12:08 PM

SAGE FRANCIS! You read my mind! I was gonna post this! So I'll post this one instead.

hoof123 03-24-2011 12:21 PM

Can't believe that nobodies mentioned this one yet!
