Do you think Hip Hop in general is getting better?

In 2011,there have been alot of good underground artists that are lyrically talented. The problem is the fans who are mostly around my age (16) who prefer the mainstream rappers because they watch BET which really doesn't air good artists or even programs for that matter.Lupe Fiascos songs are much better than a few years ago and I really like Tyler the Creator hes okay but there is still good hip hop being ignored and bad hip hop being produced but to a lesser extent imo.

I'm inclined to say no, just because of the sheer amount of terrible artists around today, there are some promising young talents coming through though, Boho Fau has a sound that's reminiscent of early 90s Jazz-Hop.

EDIT - Here's a link to Boho Fau's free 22 song release - http://elevatedsoul.bandcamp.com/alb...ewing-sessions

No, nothing like old school, new school, or the golden age of hip hop.

it's just straying farther from the beaten path. You have more self-aware artists who are choosing effective, simpler wordplay with less traditional hooks and rhyme formats.

There are more artists today. so by default there are more bad artists, but i wouldn't say it's getting worse in general.

Just wait for madvillian 2 and it will be the best year for hip hop ever :)

There's some good underground stuff, but now mainstream, in short, is terrible.

yeah but that feeds into what he was saying about good underground artists and them not getting mainstream attention.

Racks on Racks will still continue to get radioplay

I don't know man, mainstream and "underground" is all becoming a blur thanks to the internet.

Odd Future doesn't get attention from "mainstream" outlets, at least not radioplay, and continue to be absurdly successful.

I think as the years progress it will get harder to lump people into categories like "mainstream" or "underground" as the influence of traditional media continues to die.
