If you love hip hop, STOP ****ING AROUND (the new hip hop album club).

This shiite has been dead for a while and it seems like it's time it was brought back.

I'm not amazing at organizing things so I decided to steal the Folk album club's format.

the date of the month:-.. 1----------7----------14----------21----------30
time to nominate albums:..>>>>>>>.................>>>>>>>>>>
vote in poll for one album:................>>>>>>>>....................>>>>>>>>
listen to the poll winner:... >>>>>>>>...................>>>>>>>>
discuss winning album:.....................>>>>>>>>............... .......>>>>>>>

Basically we'll be going through two albums a month and there will be two different activites that you can take part in at any time. Consider the bolded arrows one album and the non-bolded aroows another. Use the table for reference to see what we are doing at any given time. This is the thread in which you will nominate albums as well.

If anyone has a problem with the way I'm doing this, just say so and we can try to work something out, I'm completely open to new ideas. Let's try to get as many people in on this cause if no one else joins, I'm gonna be doing this by myself (and believe me, I WILL do this by myself if necessary).

ThePhanastasio 12-15-2011 11:42 PM

Might I recommend cLOUDDEAD's album, Ten for this?

Phantom Limb 12-15-2011 11:43 PM

Definitely.
I'd like to add: Ghostface Killah - The Pretty Toney Album

Mrd00d 12-15-2011 11:48 PM

Immortal Technique - The Martyr (2011)

Freestyle Fellowship - The Promise (2011)

Myka 9 - Mykology (2011)

I'm going to do my damndest to buckle down and participate correctly this time. Last time I got side-tracked by the multitudes of album clubs and real life intruding. I have much more free time in real life and ... a lot less album clubs going on so it should work out just fine...

/excited

If we're only doing one nom each, I'd say Freestyle Fellowship...

Kirby 12-16-2011 12:33 AM

Sure, I'll try and do this.

Hail Mary Mallon's "Are You Going To Eat That?" will be my first nomination.

duotone 12-16-2011 02:26 AM

Atmosphere - Overcast

Goofle 12-16-2011 04:41 AM

Vakill - 'Armor of God' (2011)

Looking forward to this.

Goofle 12-16-2011 06:04 AM

Also 'L.A. Riots' by Thurz and 'Elmatic' by Elzhi.

Thom Yorke 12-16-2011 06:30 AM

Aesop Rock - Appleseed EP (1999)
Prefuse 73 - Vocal Studies and Uprock Narratives (2001)
El-P - Fantastic Damage (2002)
Babbletron - Mechanical Royalty (2003)
King Geedorah - Take Me To Your Leader (2003)

If it can only be one, take any of these.

Electrophonic Tonic 12-16-2011 07:16 AM

I'll start with one of these two...

-The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust- Saul Williams (2007)
-Little Johnny from the Hospital- Company Flow (1999)

LoathsomePete 12-16-2011 09:11 AM

I would also like to nominate Immortal Technique's new album The Martyr (2011) as well as Kendrick Lamar's debut Section .80 (2011)

Phantom Limb 12-16-2011 10:17 AM

I was wondering, do you guys think we should keep all the old nominations that aren't chosen from poll to poll, or would you prefer to scrap it all and start over fresh each time we vote? I'm sorta leaning towards keeping them all around, but it may become an issue if we have too many albums to choose from. Thoughts?

Mrd00d 12-16-2011 01:16 PM

Shouldn't end up being an issue, I think this is just the excitement of starting. By the second round, nominations won't be too prominent.

@Thom Yorke We did Fantastic Damage this year in our last hip-hop album club. There's a thread that's still open and desperately needing extra opinions. I wouldn't be opposed to doing it again, but we did do it once already is all. It was my pick. :D Unfortunately the response was sparse....

Sparky 12-16-2011 04:03 PM

Ah, ok. I'll Sleep When You're dead is a good one to look at too but I've nominated enough already.

Definitively love to discuss this too. THERE ARE NO ATHIESTS IN THE FOXHOLES, THERE IS NO INTELLECT IN THE AIR and other hooks can be analyzed lotsa ways

Goofle 12-17-2011 06:56 AM

I thought we were going for new releases. I'll not change my choices though, all great in my view. Seriously though, if you haven't listened to "Armor of God" by Vakill, go do it now.

You're mad at CuDi and New Boys, but not Flockaveli?

lololol

Phantom Limb 12-21-2011 09:22 PM

I'm too lazy to make the poll tonight but tomorrow I'll be all over it.

Sparky 12-22-2011 12:41 AM

ha, i highly doubt that

duotone 12-28-2011 05:01 AM

This still happening or we starting in the new year?

Phantom Limb 12-29-2011 11:48 AM

It's happening right now. We vote until the 30th and then we listen to the album. If you have any questions referring to what's going down, just check the first post, it has a table that explains what we are doing at any given time.

Goofle 12-29-2011 12:21 PM

Which is winning? On my phone atm.

Phantom Limb 12-29-2011 02:42 PM

I'll Sleep When You're Dead is in the lead with 2 votes. We got 25 nominations and only like 6 people have voted so far.

Goofle 12-29-2011 02:50 PM

How can there be no poll? That's why nobody has voted.

Phantom Limb 12-29-2011 03:00 PM

This is the poll.

Goofle 12-29-2011 03:09 PM

Bump it! I'm not having EL-P win!

THURZ FTW!

Mrd00d 12-29-2011 04:02 PM

You just might suckah :D
