Default Lupe Fiasco

Has anyone ever listened to/seen him?
He performed at my school and the performance was amazing, he has a great stage presence.
And his band was awesome too, the keyboard player is a jazz artist who has an album out, and the rest of the band was good and so much fun to watch.

Lupe has a lot of songs about changing the world and everything, he's going a lot harder than some of these new rap artists with nothing to say but how much money they have and everything.
Even if you follow him on Twitter, you can tell he cares about the world around him.

Anyway, he was really good last night, even improv-ing and **** like that. I have some videos if anyone wants to see.

I've heard of him. I love him! He is really good! I heard one of his songs a few months ago and I was really impressed with it.

I love so many of them!

I like that he has real messages in his songs, too. Even this one. You think it's just about the show or performing but he talks about how people can get somewhere in their lives. I think that's nice, it shows he's a strong person, someone good to look up to.

Lupe is a good rapper and always has a great message, but he went pop on Lasers and a lot of people were put off by that, and the following contradictions.

I love his feature on "Touch the Sky".

I thought he was going to be really "pop" like at the concert, too. But the music was so real and so intense, nothing like the studio recordings you hear!
And everyone was going crazy.

It actually sounded more like rock/jazz than rap OR pop at all. Like it was so musical. AND his rapping is good too.

Majority of Lasers, including "the show goes on", was not written by him, he had very limited control over that album.

This is why i get discouraged when people credit him for having a message or saying he's different from any other pop rap artist.

His first album was okay though

I've heard him on Patrick Stump's track, "This City", and I'm not one for rap but I like him quite a bit. His rap on that song was pretty sweet too.

I did hear that Sparky, but I am not sure if it is confirmed, so I would rather just say it was his album, even though he has accused the label of having some creative control (which I always call bull **** on personally).

Heres some quote by him from wiki.

Quote:
here's nothing really to tell about that record, to be honest. I didn't have nothing to do with that record. That was the label's record. That wasn't like I knew the producer or knew the writer or anything like that. That was one of those records the record company gave me, [they even gave me] stuff they wanted me to rap about. It wasn't like, 'Hey I did this and I went to a mountain and found inspiration and it was this'. [...] I had to do "The Show Goes On", that was like the big chip on the table. I had to do it and it had to be the first single if the record was going to come out.
Quote:
I was literally told for "The Show Goes On" that I shouldn't rap too deep. I shouldn't be too lyrical. It just needs to be something easy on the eyes. Like a record company telling Picasso that we don't need these abstract interpretations of life, where people have to sit down and look at it and break it down. It was better to paint the Upper West Side lady and her poodle so everyone could look at it right away and understand what was going on. I felt like I was painting poodles. It's why in the first line of "The Show Goes On" I paraphrase Johnny Rotten at the Sex Pistols' final show: "Have you ever had the feeling that you were being cheated".
Honestly, i think he got the best deal ever. He made millions off making a pop album he publicly criticized, and is still considered a great rapper because of that pop album

He's certainly talented, and his upcoming album I'm sure will be good now that he's shown he has fans and will attract good producers.
