If we are talking REALLY old school then I preferred the electro sound a lot more. This is one cool compilation for newcomers and for revisionists alike.

Various - Electro Beatbox

Tommy Boy put out some great early stuff too and this comp is great:

Various - Tommy Boy Greatest Beats (The First Fifteen Years 1981-1996)

Highlights include:

Total-Can't You See
Digital Underground-The Humpty Dance
Coolio-Fantastic Voyage.

Need to up my ratio of Electro albums.

Classic tune from the Tommy Boy label:

Afrika Baambaata was pretty old school. I have his Planet Rock album and it is pretty sweet.
