I listened to one of his records and the guy bored me. But I can see where the surprise would come from, he's the type of artist I would generally go for. Just doesn't click.

I gave it a couple of spins but it was just kind of meh. I know Jay's lyrical ability and there are some pretty good tracks. "Something to hold on to" and "Katrina the Leeve Broke" are the ones that stood out for me and there were like two more but I can't recall their names at the moment. I wouldn't actively seek out this mixtape to listen to it again but I'm pretty sure I'll give it another listen some time in the future.
