Meek Mill

I was surprised to see not 1 Meek Mill thread on here, he is not actually bad at all. Any complaint about him, would only be about his yelling. To me w.e thats his character.
He just recently released his very anticipated mixtape DreamChasers 3
I've had it on repeat and it doesnt get old to me.

What are your thoughts on Meek?

djchameleon 10-01-2016 12:30 AM

Well Meek doesn't have this own recent thread so I just had to bump this dusty thread off.

He's currently beefing with Beanie Seigel, The Game and he tossed off a Drake diss there.

I don't think he's really beefing with Drake but more so with the other two.

Also Dreamchasers 4 should be coming out soon. It was supposed to come out in September some time but it's still not out.

djchameleon 10-24-2016 04:49 AM

I downloaded that but haven't listened to it yet. I thought maybe you were talking about Streets of Compton

DwnWthVwls 10-24-2016 09:39 AM

Cool written ....

djchameleon 10-25-2016 05:41 AM

You say that like most freestyles aren't written. Almost all of them are nowadays.

You're right :( and I think it's lame. Don't call it a freestyle if you wrote and practiced it before hand, call it what it is. Let's raise the standards in hiphop a little, huh?

Well it just comes down to there being two types of freestyles, the written ones and the ones that are off the top of the dome. I used to be a diehard purists like you and only give credence to off the top of the dome freestyles but over the years I've come to appreciate written freestyles just as much and I don't feel like one should be superior than the other when it comes to talking about freestyles.

...but that written category is literally not freestyle...

It's not even an issue of good or bad.

djchameleon 10-25-2016 10:25 AM

the term freestyle now includes writtens though, they have been done that way for so long that it's the norm.

Dude...

What's the point of using words if they have no meaning?

We should call that style charlatan freestyle, because those who use it are just people who want the cred of being good at freestyling without actually having a talent for it. There's absolutely nothing wrong with using writtens, but you know, writtens aren't freestyling.

Do you not know that words end up adapting new meanings over time when they become colloquial?

The English language is fluid.

Saw that one coming. There's shifting language and there's words being used 100% incorrectly by people who are hopping onto freestyling because being known as a good freestyler is good publicity. This isn't a change in colloquial use of the word freestyle, this is people pretending to freestyle and rendering the concept of what makes a good freestyler meaningless.

djchameleon 10-25-2016 10:51 AM

People can easily tell the difference between a written and one that isn't written. So the whole concept of being known as a good freestyler for good publicity goes out the window.

People just need to come to terms with the fact that there are written freestyles and ones that aren't and judge them individually instead of lumping the two together.

At the end of the day they are still freestyles though.

Frownland 10-25-2016 10:56 AM

I'm going to remember this next time someone says that hip hop isn't an ignorant genre. RIP individual thought.

Ja...no, that's just you doing mental gymnastics to stick with your original position. An excellent freestyler can make rhymes that sound like they took longer than Finnegan's Wake to write and someone can work for years on a written that sounds like a terrible freestyle.

Drop the word freestyle and just call it a written and I totally agree with you on judging things individually. But then again it's not even about that, just what you call it.

Same here... I was thinking about how much aggression there is in most rap music and I don't always like the negativity, I'm kind of afraid that it'll make me more aggressive, and I don't want that. Figured it would be good to expand my boundaries and listen to other genres!

kibbeh 01-09-2017 02:40 PM

i always get meek mill and mac miller mixed up

djchameleon 01-09-2017 09:16 PM

Think of them by who they are with.

Meek Mill was an idiot that I think he cheated on Nicki Minaj and Mac Miller is with Ariana Grande

He wasn't very smart even before he cheated on Nicki

Ericcross 01-24-2017 12:53 AM

I wanna see Meek Millz and Jim Jones on a joint. That would be classic. Not because of Meek tho, because of Jim Jones.

RickySmith 09-30-2019 12:52 PM

Meek Mill put out some serious fire though a few years ago!
