Best albums of 2014?

I'm just curious but what has a thread about listing the release dates of albums of all genres got to do with a thread listing the best hip hop albums released this year?

I think it's a little early to say, I hate it when something is called best of the year hen there's a full six or so months left personally. Now notable releases, or remarkable in general, seems ok to me

Considering we are only in May I hardly think we can determine the best album of 2014.

well we could talk about best so far. I'll have to look through my collection first before I decide though what has been the best so far.

Like Surell said nothing really stands out off the top of my head.

Don't quote me, my mind's in the 70s. The newest Hip Hop I've been listening to is "Cut Her Off" on infinite repeat so I'm not really one to say here. However, I am glad that I might not be missing out and simultaneously disappointed if Hip Hop really is that stagnant right now.

I saw this post in "New Posts", I didn't see it was in R&HH. No disrespect whatsoever to that genre but it's NMT and I never go there. My apologies.

Good question, I must have been insanely slow on the 2014 uptake as nothing immediately jumps out at me.
I quite liked YG's album 'My Krazy Life'
The production on it's really impressive and the hooks are infectious and YG actually possesses enough charisma and authenticity to pull off the gangsta style.

Unlike Freddie Gibbs, who released Pinata. Again, the production is the best part with Madlib laying down some sick beats. But I can't quite take the mumbling, 2Pac on rewind, style of Gibbs seriously. He tries too hard to try and push his badass persona and his music suffers at times. However, I do at times enjoy the style as it comes across quite effortless especially in his delivery.

Future's album was fairly decent. There were a few good tracks. But his style has never been one that's immersed me too much. He's making progress as an artist but he's still a bit sh*t.

Rick Ross' Mastermind is inconsistent, but the big man puts out another solid effort.

I couldn't stand "My Krazy Life"


Kid Ink's albums "My Own Lane" surprised me a bit with how well it was overall. It was a really good mainstream release.

I'm with Manky and not really creaming myself over Pinata.

Oxymoron from Schoolboy Q disappointed the hell out of me. I was all over the singles that came out before the album was released but boo. He's horrible as far as putting out a meaningful album. I felt like it was a bit of a bait and switch. Those singles pulled me in but didn't keep me interested in the rest of his output.

If I had to pick one album so far. I'd definitely have to go with Lord Steppington. The production and lyricism is on point. Where Freddie Gibbs on Pinata falls apart is where Evidence shines.

I downloaded Pharoahe Monch's and Prodigy's albums but I haven't given them a proper listen yet. I will get around to them soon.
