Rap Gladiators!
All right I've been drinking, but I thought up yet another game so here goes...rap gladiators!!! (A merciless rhyming bloodbath) don't know if there are enough people to make it work, but we'll give it a spin.
The rules are simple. 1) Someone represents their gladiator by throwing up their favourite rap song by an artist. 2) Someone else throws out a gladiator challenge by throwing up their favourite song by an artist. 3) The first one to receive 3 to 5 votes wins, and thus the winner determines the fate of the other rapper, thumbs up he lives to fight another day, thumbs down he dies. 4) The winner goes on to battle the next challenger, and if they win three in a row they earn their freedom, to be enshrined as a godly immortal rapper! All right my first gladiator is.... The D.O.C. Who shall bring forth the challenger!!! |
I'll keep it similar stylistically... I summon: LL Cool J
I'm Bad |
Great! Now we just need three people to vote on which song above is better and its game on.
|
The D.O.C. - 1
LL Cool J - 0 |
I don't know much about Rap, but that song by The D.O.C. was sexy as hell.
The D.O.C. - 2 LL Cool J - 0 |
I'l go with LL since imo that track is much more influential to Hip-Hop than anything The D.O.C. put out before he turned into a ghoul, no one came as hard and agressive in style and approach as Cool J then LL when his album "Bigger & Deffer" came out, sure The D.O.C.'s debut is an absolute masterpiece, but if were talking rappers to deserve to be immortalized LL does and The D.O.C. doesn't.
So forget Oreos eat Cool J Cookies. LL Cool J - 1 The D.O.C. - 2 |
Allright 3 votes in; done! (I'm not looking for a bunch a votes like my survivor threads, I just want to keep the flow going)
Alas, I do not have the heart to kill off LL Cool J, so thumbs up he lives. That being said I am disappointed with his failure, so I Caesar William hereby decree that he can not fight for at least 10 more rounds. The D.O.C has won 1 match, 2 more to go and he wins his freedom. Time for someone to Bring forth the next challenger!!![/U] |
something from the same era at least
|
Done, it's on, now we just need 3 to 5 votes.
|
both deliver, just on different levels. I'm not going to be objective, slick rick gets my vote. I love a good narrative.
Slick Rick 1 D.O.C 0 |
Rick.. easily one of my favorite songs of all time.
Rick - 2 DOC - 0 |
Slick Rick without a doubt in my mind.
Slick Rick - 3 The D.O.C. - 0 |
Solo artists only?
|
Already has three but I want to subscribe to this and show love to one of my favorite rick songs
slick rick - 4 doc - 0 |

edit - rereading the rules... it seems like i'm supposed to decide DOC's fate and press reset... i say thumbs up...no reason to kill him off for losing to rick the ruler. so i guess ricky needs a new challenger.. |

So since no one else has put forth a gladiator the Challenger is here!!! 3 to 5 votes in. |
Rick - 1

Hiphop forums so active.
|
for the sake of the survival of this thread, you might want to press reset and pick a match between two nerd rap artists that will garner more mb responses
i'm perfectly willing to let the current match drop cause i do think the concept of this thread has potential |
In the interest of preventing JWB from being an internet forum victim
I'm going with Slick Rick on this one. I like the funkiness of Too Short's beat more than Slick's for the most part, but his flow and lyricism doesn't hold a flamethrower to Rick's. Rick - 2 Short - 0 |
He doesn't like clever wordplay or anything, I don't think he's liked a single rec I threw at him. Picky as fuck. He just wants to hear about shit he's never been through and can't relate with.

How picky you are about hiphop. Meant to post this in the other thread where you and Frown were arguing or whatever. Whoops.
|
i don't think i'm picky... more like i'm not obsessed with the same internet based hip hop subcultures that you are
i like most hip hop from 90 or so onwards... in fact i dare say i like more hip hop than anyone else on this forum |
I listen to everything from 80s to present. I rec you "White Lines" and you say, "eh, it's okay, I can appreciate it, but not something I'd really listen to on my own". I rec you La the Darkman, "it's boring, can you tell me the good songs?"... I get it if you don't like my underground whiteboy rap and prefer more traditional golden era stuff, but if you don't go beyond mainstream hippop there isn't much modern music that captures the essence of (imo) quality lyrics, diverse flows, and interesting beats from that time. I love the classics but I wanna hear new things too.
Also, there's no way you listen to a wider variety hiphop than I do. :D |
I listen to so much hip hop that half of it isn't even considered hip hop.

keep in mind this is an album that you told me was up there with cuban linx/liquid swords/etc but yea you like more old school **** and more nerdcore rap than i do. i like 90's rap and some late 80's stuff but i'm not really into that ancient sounding b boy **** but you can't appreciate a good majority of mainstream rap from 2000 onward, and you completely ignore/dismiss all trap oriented rap music so yea i say i listen to at least as wide a variety as you... except the **** i like is better |
idk maybe I just love it so much cause of nostalgia. I had just about everyone wu, wu affiliate, and solo album prior to ~02, and that is easily in my top 5. As far as the other point, the amount of variety (sylistically/subject material) covered in my "nerdcore" is vastly greater than anything from the last 10-15 years and trap music. That shit is all the same with different voices. I've tried getting into it I just don't see what there is to appreciate. I've never once said I don't like the production, it's just the content that's awful. I've even said I like a lot of that stuff given the right scenario (party/club), but I refuse to give most of them credit as good writers and lyricists.
I'm down for suggestions if you think my latter point is ignorant. |
I'm more Hip-Hop than anyone here! I run an Instagram page called @HipHopLand and I have my own logo! Only I listen to the real Hip-Hop and not that Hip-Pop! Lil' Wayne is wack and Tupac is for life!!
|
Cool, then u should vote while you're here so we can get the next battle going :D
|
Nah I don't know those guys, I heard of them but I'm more of a Snoop and Biggie man myself.
|
Would have voted earlier but there's been a pissy pants competition going on and it's hard to figure out what's going on.
Rick - 3 Short - 0 |
I'm so hip hop I sneeze graffiti and sleep in the B-boy stance!
